Summer Reading Log

Hello!  Jennie McGarvey with you today to share with you a fun craft that you can complete with a kid that is both fun to make and completely functional!

jenniemcgarveykidscrafts1

I don’t know about you, but my kids really do love using my paper crafting tools.  From my Punch Boards, to my Evolution Advanced—the kids love to help with these tools!

So, what do you do when you have school aged kids who love tools?  Create something useful with those tools like a reading log!  My kids read books over the summer and then will take tests on those books when they go back to school.  This handy little mini album will help them keep track of the books they read, the authors and a few details.

I only needed a few supplies to create this album.  First I started with my Cinch and some Indian Summer Albums Made Easy Journaling Cards.  I picked out ones that had lines, or would lend itself to note taking.

jenniemcgarveykidscraft2

Not only did I used the cards from the kit, but I also added a couple of pieces of plain white card stock in case they wanted to draw their own pictures from the stories.

Then, we needed to embellish the cover.  It’s important they know exactly what this small album is for.  Even more perfect?  We were able to use the Evolution Advanced, dies, and papers from the Cake and Candles collection.

Those Cakes and Candles Alpha Block Stickers add the perfect touch to the front of the album.

Isn’t this a fun little album?  Can you think of any other uses that a kid might like to have a mini album of their own?  Maybe not school related but just for fun?  Make sure you share with us on Facebook or tag us on Instagram to share with us how you’re using We R Memory Keepers products with the kids.

Eat Well Travel Often Mini Album

Hello! Samantha here for the last day of Travel Week on the WRMK blog. For today I had an idea that was part mini album, part journal, part recipe book. I hope you enjoy my eclectic Eat Well Travel Often mini album.

Eat Well Travel Often Mini Album by Samantha Taylor 1

The inside cover of the album tells what this album is and why I wanted to make it.

“Travel changes you. We’ve found it changes the way we eat.  We found we often fall in love with something we’ve never eaten before, and decide to make it when we return home. These are those recipes.”

Eat Well Travel Often Mini Album by Samantha Taylor 2

That’s the what and the why of the album, now let’s talk about the how. I knew I wanted to use my Cinch to bind the album, so I had a few choices. I could make something from scratch or use a kit. I decided to use a kit. My choices were then the Cinch Recipe Book Kit or the Cinch Journal Kit. I ended up using the Journal Kit because it’s a bit larger and I wanted lots of space.

I started by embellishing the cover. I decided to mix and match a lot of colors, textures, and paper collections throughout this album (I’ll hopefully be adding to it for years to come, so eclectic is good!). For the cover I chose Denim Blues Fabric Paper, paper from the Shine collection, and some pops of gold.

I kept the back cover a little more simple with just Denim Blues Fabric Paper.

After I had the covers completed (but before I moved on to creating the insides), I bound the album. This is where the Cinch saves you so much time! It punches all of your holes for binding so quickly.

…but this is my favorite part about the Cinch. The side has a place to hold your binding wire while you’re adding your paper to it. It’s one of the few times in life where I don’t need an extra pair of hands, because the Cinch is doing the holding for you!

After I bound my mini album it was time to add some recipes, photos, and journaling to the pages.

Eat Well Travel Often Mini Album by Samantha Taylor 8

The photos above and below show a recipe with 2 parts. Since they’re 2 pieces of the same dish, I kept the pages cohesive by using Denim Blues and Hello Darling paper on both of them. You can also see why at the starting of my post I called this project part mini album, part recipe book, and part journal. These pages contain the recipe, a favorite photo from our travels, and the reason why we love the recipe or a story about where we first ate it.

My Eat Well Travel Often Mini Album contains recipes from both domestic and foreign travel, but depending on where your passion lies, you could easily configure this to your taste. Are you one of those people who plans to visit all 50 states? You could find a signature dish from each state. Backpacked across Europe in college? Highlight European foods. Love to camp? Make a book of your favorite camping foods and the memories that go along with spending time together in the great outdoors. I’d love to hear about your favorite food related travel memory in the comments!

Miss “U” Travel Themed Card

Hello We R friends! It’s Aly here today to share a fun travel-themed card with you. This is a clever card you can send to friends while they’re away from home to let them know you’re thinking of them. You’ll need an alphabet of some kind–stickers, stamps, or (in my case) the alphabet folder from the ABC 123 Next Level Embossing Folder Set.

Add your alphabet to the front of you card, making sure the letter U is missing. For my card I embossed the front with my Evolution Advanced and the alphabet folder. Then I covered the bottom row of letters (which contained the U) with some patterned paper.

When using the new Next Level Embossing Folders be sure to set your Evolution Advanced dial at the very top as shown in the photo below. These folders are extra dimensional and need a little less pressure than the standard embossing settings on the dial.

I kept the card pretty simple to allow the beautiful embossing to stand out. To finish off my card I added another banner cut strip of patterned paper, another strip with the word “missing” printed on it, and a sticker with a letter U Thicker attached to form my sentiment, “missing U”. Get it? 😉

This is a great design to use if you’re traveling as well. You could send it to your love ones waiting for you at home. So, are you traveling this summer? Do you have any crafting plans to go along with your travels?

Travel Themed Scrapbook Layout

Hello WR fans, Carrie here! This week we have been taking you on our traveling journeys, I hope you are all having fun and getting some inspiration along way. Today I am sharing with you the beginning of my son’s new journey in life.  2013 marked a very exciting time…my son was off to college. I chose to use the WRMK Jet Set line to showcase the states we traveled through.

6-27-15

I started by picking out the products I was going to use…

6-27-15-2

Once I chose papers and photos I cut my photos to focus only on the states welcome signs. I matted them with a contrasting color in my patterned papers so they would stand out a bit more. I also matted my design papers to help them stand out a bit more on my background paper. Once I had the design of the layout I adhered everything down and started embellishing my layout. I used WRMK Jet Set Embossed Stickers. I also used the WRMK Jet Set Souvenir paper and used it to cut out some journaling words and my title. I also used some foam dots to add some dimension to some of my embellishments.

6-27-15-1

I finished my layout with a little bit of ink along the edges of my paper just to give it that last bit of pop! I hope you enjoyed coming along on the beginning of my son’s journey, I’m sure I will have so much more to share as he travels down this new path in his life!
