First Day of School Layout

Hello, Samantha on the blog today. My kids went back to school at the end of August, so I have lots of first day photos to scrap. For today’s post, I thought I’d create a First Day Layout using the Banner Punch Board and Wildflower paper.

First Day of School layout by designer Samantha Taylor featuring the We R Memory Keepers Wildflower collection and Banner Punch Board. #wermemorykeepers #bannerpunchboard

Wildflower might not be the first paper collection you think of for a back to school layout (especially one for boys), but I’ve been surprised to find how versatile this collection is and how easy it is to use for any occasion. I decided to create a background from banner pieces created with the Banner Punch Board. I wanted the banners to be 4” wide. You can see in the photo below, that a 4” wide banner will be 5 ½ “ long. I created 12 banners with the Banner Punch Board and fit them together like (very simple) puzzle pieces to create the background.

A background built from so many different pieces of patterned paper can be a bit busy, so to keep the focus on the photo I clustered all of my embellishments and did all of my detail work directly around the photo. I started by adding some silver foil accents with the Heat Wave Pen. I used the Heat Wave Sans Serif Stencil to add the school year, and I used a ruler to create a silver outline around the piece of patterned paper layered under my photo.

I like to keep everything in place when I’m using the Heat Wave by adding a little washi tape to 1 or 2 of the edges of my foil and paper.

I created a cluster of tags and ephemera from the Wildflower Tags, the new DIY Party Tag Punch, and some Clearly Posh embellishments.

See through embellishments can be tricky to adhere to your page without the adhesive showing. I’ve had great success using Sticky Thumb Multi Purpose Liquid Glue. I just pipe a thin layer on behind any printing on the clear embellishment. Here, I just piped on lines of glue behind the silver lines on the heart.

I had so much fun creating this back to school first day layout using the banner punch board and a few other We R Memory Keepers tools. Using Wildflower definitely added a non-traditional twist! Have you ever used the banner punch board to create a background for a layout or a card? I’d love to hear about what you’ve created with it!

School Memories Album

Hello We R fans! It’s Carrie with you today. Today I am going to share with you a project I made using the WRMK Cinch Binding Machine.  I decided to make something just a little bit different.  My daughter just started High School and she loves to save little trinkets along with photos so I thought I would make her an envelope memory book for all the little things she saves throughout her high school years.

This is what I came up with and I really love the way it turned out!

Cinch envelope album for school memories by designer Carrie Walz for We R Memory Keepers #thecinch #backtoschool

First I gathered all my materials and then I followed the directions on the WRMK Envelope Punch Board. I chose to make my envelopes for a 6×8 ½ card so I cut my paper and scored to the correct measurements. I used the AC Sticky Thumb Double Sided ¼ in sticky tape to adhere my envelopes together.

I wanted a way to have the envelopes close so I used my WRMK Magnetic Cutting Mat and Ruler to hold the envelopes in place. I used my WRMK Art Knife to cut a slit in my envelope. Make sure you put a piece of scrap chipboard in the envelope so you don’t cut all the way through. With this slit I can slide the flap of the envelope in and make sure all the little trinkets don’t fall out.

Once I got the envelopes and front cover embellished I was ready to Cinch my book together. Before I do this, I always do a practice sheet to make sure everything lines up the correct way, you may want to do this too just to be safe.

For the binding I chose to use the WRMK Cinch Binding Spiral. For this type of binding you just need to run the end through your holes you just made and twist until it is all the way through. Carefully bend the ends and ta-da!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope I was able to give you some inspiration today!

Handmade Gift Packaging for Teacher

Hello We R friends! It’s Aly back on the blog again today. There’s no better way to make teacher feel extra special at the start of the school year than with some beautiful handmade gift packaging. Not only will she not want to toss it after opening the gift, but she’ll appreciate the extra effort to make her gift look unique. To create this pretty packaging I combined one of my favorite We R paper collections (Wildflower) with some of my favorite We R tools (Punch Boards).

Wildflower Gift Bag and Box by Aly Dosdall

I used the Gift Bag Punch Board to create the bag, and then added some flowers that I fussy cut from the Wildflower patterned paper. I cut out a tag from another piece of Wildflower paper and then added a butterfly from the Wildflower Ephemera Bits and a Wildflower sticker for the sentiment.

For the box I used the 123 Punch Board to make the box and the bow at the top. Love how versatile that punch board is! I added some ephemera butterflies and Gold Sequin Stickers to finish it box with paper bow by Aly Dosdall

It’s the little details that will show teacher how much you appreciate all she does. Try making some handmade packaging for your back-to-school teacher gifts this year.

Snap Storage: Easy and Versatile Solution

Hey there, Aimee Maddern sharing how I incorporated the SNAP Storage into my scrap space. I recently redid my scrap/office space on a whim. I live in a small 2-bedroom house and I needed my extra bedroom back. This creates a problem for me since I also work from home and need that extra bedroom as a home office/scrap space. So I had 3 main focuses 1. Desk 2. Workspace 3. Futon {for sleeping}.

I was pretty much done with the redo {but really is it every finished?} when I received the SNAP Storage from We R. I thought this is really awesome, but I have one whole wall of pegboard already hung, and the other wall I had hung supplies amongst memorabilia gallery style. So I had to get clever. I ended up hanging The SNAP Storage amongst my other supplies on the gallery wall.

SNAP Storage by Aimee Maddern 2

You can see I hung three SNAP Storage bars. One on either side of my old Making Memories Cabinet. And one under an old Tape cassette holder that I found thrifting and now use for stamp pads. I mixed the different size washi clips and ribbon clips to hold the different size washi rolls.

Since I have WAY more washi than pictured, I just picked my favorite ones to display, but they are also super easy to access when I need to use them.

I think my Favorite part of the SNAP Storage is the storage bottle clips. I could see having a whole wall lined with these. And of course the We R Twine fits perfectly in the large ribbon clips amongst the storage bottle clips.

Now please be kind, and keep in mind that this is a very small narrow room {and incredibly hard for an amateur to photograph}, that I needed to use for 3 different things, and I have WAY TOO MUCH STUFF!

Thanks for stopping by the blog today; I hope you enjoyed how I used the SNAP Storage in my workspace. How do you store/display your washi/twine/embellishments?

Snap Storage Tips and Tricks

Howdy We R fans! It’s Aly Dosdall here again to share some tips and tricks with you for using the new Snap Storage system. While the Snap Storage was designed to hold ribbon, washi tape, and small embellishments, there’s no reason why crafters can’t think outside the box and use the storage in different ways. Check out what I used my Snap Storage for in my craft room!

I don’t have a lot of large ribbon spools, and I have too many small American Crafts ribbon spools to fit this storage system, so I decided to use it to hold some different items to fit my needs. I mounted the bars on my wall using the screws included with them, but you can also use Command strips if you’d rather not make holes in your walls.

we r snap storage by aly dosdall

What I love about this system is that it’s easy to rearrange to fit my ever-changing craft stash. As I use up supplies and purchase others I can still make this system work for me.

we r snap storage large ribbon clips by aly dosdall

I used most of my large ribbon clips to hold my Baker’s Twine Spools. I love that I can easily pull them down and take them with me if I’m crafting on the go.

we r snap storage ribbon clips by aly dosdall

The next row holds my odd size ribbon spools. I used the remainder of my large ribbon clips, some medium clips, and some small ones to store these items.

we r snap storage washi clips by aly dosdall

The bottom row holds my extra medium and small washi tape rolls. You can also purchase large washi clips if you need them.

Next to my washi tape are my Bottle Clips where I store small scraps of ribbon that don’t have a spool or don’t fit on a spool anymore. Once I remove the bottles off the bar I simply pop open the top and pull out whatever scrap I need.

I hope this has given you some new ideas for how to use Snap Storage. I love the versatility of this storage system. You can really alter it in so many ways to fit your needs. How would you use Snap Storage in your craft space?

Organize Your Scrapbook Supplies With Stackable Trays

Good morning, We R fans! Jen McDermott here with a peek at how I use my Stackable Trays. I absolutely love these trays for keeping my “desk piles” at bay.  I am by nature a messy crafter, so anything that can give me organized vertical storage is a MUST for my desk.

I looked around my craft area to assess what my most cluttersome piles are and found that I need a good stopping place for my finished layouts that have yet to be filed into the correct album! So, I labeled trays for both my “love album” (where I keep pics of the hubs and I and our adventures) and a “kids album” tray.  Now, when I have a few minutes, I can grab my album and head over to the trays to file them away.

I also have a tray for “W.I.P.s”, or “works in progress”. I also like the term “UFOs” for these, too—“unfinished objects” J  And a tray to hold the collection I was using on my UFOs. That way, it’s easy to create a few minutes at a time, while working around other family commitments. I quickly grab my WIP and the collection, and work when I have a quick break.

There are so many ways you could customize these trays to work for you and your crafting needs! So tell me: how do you plan to use them in your space?
