Easter Basket

Hello WeR fans and welcome! It’s Chantalle with you again, back to share an idea on how to jazz up an Easter staple on a shoestring budget.

I’ve taken an inexpensive plain basket, which I bought at a Dollar Store and with the help of some pretty DCWV Navy Florals, and my awesome new WeR Crafter’s Essentials USB Glue Gun, brought it to life. My little one is going to love hunting for eggs with this pretty basket!

The colours in the DCWV Navy Florals 12 x12 Stack coordinated perfectly with the colour of the basket. It’s such a versatile pack as it’s filled with pretty florals and lush foil detail but also has simple single colours and muted patterns for masculine projects as well.

I had an idea in mind of how I wanted to decorate the basket, namely with lots of floral elements. Definitely a job for my Evolution Advanced! I set about cutting lengths of paper from the Navy Florals stack, about 5 inches wide and 12 inches down. I used almost all of the different prints. I love the longer cutting length you get with the Evolution plates. Using my Magnetic Mat for this task was a no-brainer, as I had to do a lot of cutting and chose various shapes from my stash.

Using the Magnetic Mat saves you time and allows you to use your space effectively as your dies stay in place during the cutting process. I honestly LOVE this mat!

You can see the little piles that gathered after all the cutting! I wanted to create contrast on the basket, so having different shades and colours was great because I got to pick and choose what I wanted to use, where.

There are loads of new releases happening in the We R camp this month, and a few of them include new ergonomic hand tools. A selection stylus tips, clever craft knives, rotary cutters and more! My Pick/Stylus combination hand tool was especially handy at helping me release some of the die cut shapes from the metal die!

Another nifty little tool are these compact Detail Scissors – great for cutting away any little areas that the die didn’t cut cleanly.

All of those die cut shapes now needed to be adhered! Enter my Crafter’s Essentials USB Glue Gun. This clever tool allows you to craft on the go with the help of a powerbank or simply plug in to a USB port on your device or plug. Brilliant!

I started off with the bigger shapes first and spaced out dark and light colours along the width of the front of the basket. I chose to do the front only as I figured the back would be crushed, bumping against little legs as they run excitedly through the garden looking for eggs!

Building layers of colour, size and shapes ended up looking really great. I loved the sharp points of the leaves amongst the rounded edges of the flowers.

The handle of the basket has been wrapped with pastel blue ribbon, which I also adhered with my USB Glue Gun.

A little pop of colour and fun on the handle was this sweet bow. The WRMK Bow shape Metal Die is another firm favourite of mine. The bow is a great size, not too large and not insipid either! It works great on cards and layouts and folds together really well.

Another little finishing touch was this metal butterfly paper clip shape, which I created on my WRMK Happy Jig. Another breakthrough new product for me – the Happy Jig is so much fun to use!!

This is one tool you have to add to your stash if you can. The instructional booklet is full of ideas and easy-to-follow instructions to create both shapes and paperclip options.

The Rose Gold Jig Wire matched the colours on my basket perfectly and adds such a   fun bit of interest and shine to this project. Plus… I can re-use the butterfly on a different project after Easter if I wish!
