Pom Pom and Tassel Halloween Garland

Hello, We R fans! Laura here today sharing how to make this adorable yarn Halloween garland using the jumbo pom pom maker and the new tassel maker.

For this garland we are going to make pom pom pumpkins and spiders and tassel ghosts. You will need white, orange, and black yarn, plus green and silver chenille stems.

Start by creating your pom pom pumpkins. Wrap yarn around both arms of one side of the pom pom maker. I usually do about 3ish layers of yarn. You can add more yarn to make a fuller pom pom, if you want. Close the arm wrapped with yarn, snip off the spooling yard, and repeat wrapping yarn on the opposite arm.

Trim the pom pom in the middle of the closed arms. Small sharp detail scissors work best for this.

Cut a piece of yarn and tie it tightly through the middle of the pom pom maker. Open both arms of the pom pom maker and pull the middle apart to get your pom pom out.

For the pumpkin, cut a green chenille stem in half. Bend one of the pieces you cut in half and tie it to the yarn piece you tied around the middle. Twist the chenille stem pieces together and create a small loop at the end. This is what we will use to attach the pumpkins to the garland.

Repeat the same process to create two more additional pumpkins.

Next, we will create the pom pom spiders. The process for creating the pom pom is the same. Instead of adding in the green chenille stem, you will add four pieces of silver chenille stems in the piece you tie to the middle.

Bend the legs at the end to create 8 spider legs. Flip the spider over and add a length of yarn about 6 inches long to the middle strand holding the pom pom together. Tie the ends together in a knot. This is what we will use to hang the spider from the garland.

Use hot glue to add googly eyes to each spider, if desired. Create a total of three spiders.

Last, we will create the tassel ghosts. Use the new tassel loom and white yarn. I found some sparkly white yarn that was perfect for these ghosts. Open the tassel loom and wrap your yarn around the 2” side.

Tie a 6” piece of yarn around the middle of the yarn. This will create the loop to hang the tassel.

Fold the tassel loom in half. Wrap a 12” piece of yarn about 1 inch from the top of the looped yarn. Close the loop by tucking the end into the head of the tassel.

Slide your scissors through the grooves in the bottom of the loom and cut the looped yarn. Remove the metal rod at the top of the tassel maker to slide the tassel off the loom. Trim the ends to make them all even.

Add ghost eyes to the tassel by tying a knot with the black yarn around a strand of white yarn. Trim the ends. I like how it almost looks like the little ghost has eye lashes! Repeat on another strand of white yarn a few strands over to create a second eye.

Create two more ghosts for the garland.

To make the garland more interesting and cohesive, I took all three colors of yarn and loosely braided them together. I threaded each of the pumpkins, spiders, and ghosts onto the braided yarn strand. I think these little critters would be adorable tied to a Halloween present, as well!
