Dia de los Muertos Paper Quilling Sugar Skull

Hello everyone! It’s Eva on the blog today bringing you a tutorial on how to create a quilling skull to decorate during Halloween season.

Dia de Muertos Paper Quilling Sugar Skull by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers

Día de Muertos is a Mexican holiday, it involves family and friends gathering to pray and remember friends and family members who have died. What I love about that holiday is that it isn’t spooky, it is a celebration!

I was inspired by the bright colors and skulls to create a quilling skull to decorate my home during this season.

To create this quilling project first, you will need to cut ¼ inch strips of paper with your favorite We R trimmer. I am using the Trim and Score Board, that tool is always near my desk!

Dia-de-Muertos-skull-by-Eva-Pizarro-2

To create the border, glue black strips of paper forming the skull. You can use a template from the web or trace it yourself if you have the skills!

To quill your papers strips you have 2 choices: You can use a manual quilling tool like the one on the bottom, or, you can use the rotary tool with the quilling accessory to roll your paper in seconds!

Dia de Muertos Paper Quilling Sugar Skull by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers

I used the Spinning Tool and it was very easy and fast! My 4 year old helped me rolling with the manual tool and he had a wonderful time, I am sure your kids or grandkids will love to help too!

Dia de Muertos Paper Quilling Sugar Skull by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers

This was my first quilling project so I am a total beginner! Online you can find different quilling shapes but the ones I used the most were: the closed coil, the open coil, the teardrop and the marquis.

To create a teardrop you have to pinch one side of the open coil and to create the marquis pinch both sides. It is very easy and again, kids will love to help!

The first thing I did on my skull was the mouth; I glued strips of black cardstock and some quilling teeth on both sides. Next, I did the eyes and added decorations on the sides of the skull. I tried to keep everything symmetrical but you can use your imagination! It is fun and relaxing!

To glue my little pieces I used some tweezers, it was really helpful because otherwise I would move everything around with my fingers.

And here’s my Dia de Muertos skull finished, I really like how it turned out, colorful and happy! Perfect to remember all my family loved ones during the season.

The Spinning Tool was a huge success! It made my job easier, faster and you can even exchange accessories and even use it to create pompoms, tassels and rolled flowers!

Thanks for joining me today and I hope you liked this project. Quilling is very fun and if I could do it I am sure you can too.

Foil Quill Halloween Cards

Hey there We R fans, Laura  here today. I am loving using the Foil Quill to create beautiful designs for my projects. The DCWV Happy Halloween premium stack has holographic foil accents on some of the papers. Using my Foil Quill to create embellishments for cards means that I can coordinate them so well with premium foiled papers.

Halloween Cards with the Foil Quill by Laura Silva for We R Memory Keepers

For the first spider card, I started by foiling some silver spiders and spider webs on black paper. I used my Cricut machine, the holiday USB drive, and the medium foil quill tool.

Halloween Cards with the Foil Quill by Laura Silva for We R Memory Keepers

I fussy cut out the spiders and spider webs to use on my card.

Halloween Cards with the Foil Quill by Laura Silva for We R Memory Keepers

Next, I created a 5” x 7” card base using The Works tool and patterned paper. I cut an additional strip of paper to go in the middle.

Halloween Cards with the Foil Quill by Laura Silva for We R Memory Keepers

I used the corner rounder on The Works tool to round the edges of my sentiment card. I added a little piece of black and white baker’s twine over the spider strand on the card.

I attached the sentiment card to a white and silver spider web patterned paper using adhesive dots. I also used adhesive dots to attach the foiled spider webs and spider.

For the second ghost card I used The Works tool again to create another 5” x 7” card base. I found a Happy Halloween sentiment card and rounded the corners. I wrapped black and white bakers’ twine around the card and tied a bow.

I used the Foil Quill and my Cricut again to foil a bunch of silver ghost outlines on white paper. I fussy cut them out and attached them to the card using adhesive dots.

These Halloween cards turned out so cute. And I love how I can easily foil designs to go with the premium holographic foil papers I already had in my collection.

Make a Fall Card Set with the Foil Quill

Hello, We R friends. Enza here, and today I’m sharing a set of fall cards featuring the amazing Foil Quill system. How many times have you struggled trying to find the right embellishments for your projects after using up what comes in the collection? I’m obsessed with ephemera pieces, so those are the first ones to go for me. The Foil Quill system allows me to replenish my stash and have a bunch of die cuts ready to be used at any time.

Here are the cards I made. I used the gorgeous Again & Again collection by Pink Paislee. Both cards feature a horizontal design and they’re packed with beautiful gold-foiled leaves.

Fall Card Set with the Foil Quill by Enza Gudor for We R Memory Keepers

I started by selecting my designs from the Paige Evans USB Drive. I picked five different leaf shapes, which I imported into the Silhouette software to create a pattern. My initial idea was to fill out a 12×12 paper with the leaves and use that as card bases, but I changed my mind and decided to fussy cut them instead. The 12×12 Foil Sheets are very handy when it comes to this type of project!

For the first card, I created a big cluster behind the sentiment.

Fall Card Set with the Foil Quill by Enza Gudor for We R Memory Keepers

I trimmed a 5 ½ x 3 ¾ inch panel to adhere to the card base. I then cut another panel to place on top; this one measures 5 ½ x 3 inches. To create dimension, I used foam adhesive to adhere them down. After choosing my sentiment, I arranged the gold-foiled leaves behind it and, again, gave them dimension with foam dots. I finished the card with gold puffy stickers from the Again & Again collection.

Fall Card Set with the Foil Quill by Enza Gudor for We R Memory Keepers

The second card is very similar in terms of design, with two horizontal panels adhered together with foam adhesive.

Fall Card Set with the Foil Quill by Enza Gudor for We R Memory Keepers

This time I arranged the leaves in opposite corners to form two clusters. They are so pretty and shiny! Once those were in place, I added some floral die cuts and stickers, as well as a sentiment.

I love making my own embellishments with the Foil Quill. So many foil colors to choose from and designs that are versatile and fun.

I hope you enjoyed this post and have found some inspiration in it.

Have a great day!

How to Make a Gold Foil Card with the Freestyle Pens

Hello We R fans! It’s Aly Dosdall here today to share a cool and easy technique you can use with the new Freestyle Pens. Some of you may be thinking the same thing I did when I first heard about the Freestyle Pens: I can’t draw and I hate my handwriting, so how can I use the Freestyle Pens?

Well, there are SO many ways to use these pens that don’t require mad lettering or drawing skills. Here’s an easy and very cool way: create a modern gold foil brush stroke background for your handmade cards!

Gold Foil Handmade Card with the Freestyle Pens by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

Adding gold foil details to your projects doesn’t have to be difficult or complicated. For this card I used a ruler and the Bold Tip Freestyle Pen to create a modern brush stroke pattern on plain cardstock as the background.

Gold Foil Handmade Card with the Freestyle Pens by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

The process was easy and I love the results. Let me show you how I did it!

Bold Tip Freestyle Pen by We R Memory Keepers

First, I plugged my Bold Tip Freestyle Pen into my USB Battery Pack and let it heat up for 10 minutes. I love that there’s a light on the handle of the pen so I know it’s getting power.

Foil Quill Magnetic Mat by We R Memory Keepers

Next, I prepped my cardstock by trimming it to size and placing it on the Magnetic Mat. The mat isn’t necessary for using the Freestyle Pens, but it sure is handy and saves on tape! I placed a piece of gold foil over the cardstock and secured it with two of the magnetic strips that come with the mat.

Gold Foil Handmade Card with the Freestyle Pens by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

Then I placed my small magnetic ruler over the foil and started drawing rows of brush strokes across the cardstock. The cool thing about a brush stroke pattern is that it isn’t meant to be perfect or completely straight. The imperfections are what make it look modern and stylish, so that’s perfect for a freestyle pen, right? I just used the ruler to keep my lines somewhat uniform and separated.

I covered the entire piece of cardstock with brush strokes, and it only took me a few minutes. It turned out to be a cool, modern and stand-out background for this birthday card!

To complete the card I added a strip of patterned paper and some die cut ephemera pieces from the Dear Lizzy New Day collection. Then I added a few gold sequins to tie in the gold background.

How to Make Gift Wrap with The Works All In One Tool

Hello everybody! Soraya here today to share some galactic gift wrap inspiration using the new incredible board by We R Memory Keepers: The Works All-In-One Tool!

DIY Gift Wrap with The Works All In One Tool by We R Memory Keepers

To make this pretty wrapping you will need: gift wrap, ribbon, yarn, scissors and of course your All-In-One Tool!

How to Make Gift Wrap with The Works All In One Tool by Soraya Maes for We R Memory Keepers

Gift idea 1: an envelope and a bow!

If you want to offer a card or a gift card along with money, you will definitely need to put them all in a cute envelope! Why not making your own? Of course it’s possible with the All-In-One Tool!

First of all,  place the magnetic guide on the board using the “envelope” tab.

How to Make Gift Wrap with The Works All In One Tool by Soraya Maes for We R Memory Keepers

Cut the paper needed according to the dimensions on the measurement guide. My paper is 10×10 since I want my envelope to be 5×8.

How to Make Gift Wrap with The Works All In One Tool by Soraya Maes for We R Memory Keepers

Place the paper along the edge of the guide following the right measurement instructions on the board. Score the first line, rotate 90° and repeat the process until you score the 4 sides. Then place the paper under the envelope punch to align the score mark. Punch the four marks. Now put the four corners in the corner rounder punch for a perfect finish. You get a gorgeous envelope!

Use the pegs that are stored on the left side of the board and place them in the holes at the bottom of the board. The distance between them will determine the size of the bow.

Wrap the ribbon around the pegs according to the instructions and make your bow on it. So easy and the result is perfect!!

You can now add your bow to the envelop and here is a fantastic way to offer a card!

Gift ideas 2: the pompom decor!

Place the pegs on the board and determine the pom pom size you want according to the distance in between them. Tie a knot with your yarn before wrapping it around the two pegs. The amount of wraps will determine the fullness of the pompom. Tie a piece of yarn around the center and cut all the loops on both sides.

And here is your fluffy pompom!

Gift ideas 3: a stamped banner!

Why not add a fun mini banner on your gift? Let’s do this! Grab a 3×3 paper and align it on the guide according to the measurements on it. Cut on both sides of the paper and use the banner punch to create the holes. Pass a yarn through the flags and see how cute your mini banner is!

To stamp on each banner with perfect precision, place your clear stamp on the paper and press the transparent stamping plate on it. Add some black ink then replace the magnetic stamping plate on the board, lining up the magnets. Press it down and repeat the process for every banner! They stay perfectly in place thanks to the mini magnets.

Traveler’s Notebook with The Works All In One Tool

Hello and welcome. I’m Steffi and I will show you my next project. For this I worked for the first time with the great new tool “The Works”.

How cool is that!? So many things you can do with it. For my Travel Journal I tried two of the twelve features. It’s totally easy and very fast!

Traveler's Notebook with The Works All In One Tool by Steffi Ried

In a travel journal, small pockets are always very practical. You can store tickets, notes, photos, cards, etc. in them. I really like that.

This time I wanted to put several pockets for different things on one side. Small envelopes are best suited for this.

And with the “The Works” tool it’s very easy.

Traveler's Notebook with The Works All In One Tool by Steffi Ried

First I selected 5 different papers and cut them to the corrrect size according to the measuring guide that comes with the tool.

My page in the travel journal is 4 inch wide, so I made 3 x 3 1/2 inch envelopes.

Traveler's Notebook with The Works All In One Tool by Steffi Ried

Then I followed the instructions in the enclosed booklet to score the envelopes.

After that I punched small notches on the scored lines.

Traveler's Notebook with The Works All In One Tool by Steffi RiedTraveler's Notebook with The Works All In One Tool by Steffi Ried

Once all 5 envelopes were finished, I glued them together. It is best to always try to keep an even distance. But I didn’t use an exact measure for this.

Finally, decorate the envelopes with words (photos, tickets, journaling,…). The pockets are ready and can be filled with all kinds of things.

Traveler's Notebook with The Works All In One Tool by Steffi Ried

Another feature of the tool I tried was for making tags. First I wanted to create tags in different colors and sizes and then tie them together at the top.

But I used a map of the city Santiago de Chile. Often you bring a small map from your travels. One would like to incorporate this into the album. But only how?

Traveler's Notebook with The Works All In One Tool by Steffi Ried

First I cut and folded the map. So that I have 3 sections in the same size.

Traveler's Notebook with The Works All In One Tool by Steffi Ried

Now fold the card and punch a hole first. For this there is a punch on the side of the device.

Traveler's Notebook with The Works All In One Tool by Steffi RiedTraveler's Notebook with The Works All In One Tool by Steffi Ried

Then the folded card is put on the board and the corners are cut off. And the fold out map is ready.

Finally I attached a ribbon some small tags to the map. Just glue the map into the album and the fold out card is already integrated into the album.

Traveler's Notebook with The Works All In One Tool by Steffi RiedTraveler's Notebook with The Works All In One Tool by Steffi Ried

I hope you enjoyed my contribution. With the “The Works” tool you can create a lot of great things.

I will sit at my desk again and try out more of them. Have a lot of fun with “The Works – All In One Tool”.

Yours, Steffi

DIY Gift Wrap with the Revolution

Happy October!  This is Rebecca with you and I look forward to this month every year–cooler weather, Halloween, and October means it’s officially time to put decorative leaves on EVERYTHING!  They can go all over the house, on cards, on DIY projects, and of course (especially), on gift wrap.

DIY Gift Wrap with the Revolution by Rebecca Luminarias for We R Memory Keepers

I’m extra excited today because I got to use the brand new WRMK Revolution for this project (and most likely every day for the foreseeable future).  I’ve had the same die cutting machine for about 5 years and I’ve been thinking lately that it’s time to replace it.  It’s officially been replaced by the Revolution!  I love this machine–it’s durable, easy to use and set up, and comes with an awesome magnetic plate that is incredibly handy, as in, bye-bye washi tape keeping my dies in place and sometimes ripping my cardstock and die cuts.  I made so many cuts with my new Revolution for today’s project and it saved me so much time.

DIY Gift Wrap with the Revolution by Rebecca Luminarias for We R Memory Keepers

Gift wrapping is my most favorite hobby and I often use die cuts on my packaging in one form or another, even if it’s just for the tag.  Today, I’m making the die cuts the focus; all of the embellishments except for the ribbon have been die cut on my trio of gift boxes.

DIY Gift Wrap with the Revolution by Rebecca Luminarias for We R Memory Keepers

The first thing I did was choose some pretty paper, which was easy thanks to the Faded Floral paper stack from DCWV.  I chose a couple of papers to wrap up some boxes and some coordinating designs to cut the die cuts out of.

Revolution_Gift_Wrap_by_Rebecca_Luminarias_04

*I love to use scrapbook paper to wrap small boxes, but it’s heavier than typical wrapping paper–which is one reason I love it so much.  To help with that, I like to use a bone folder to crease the folds.  I also run it along the box edges, firmly pressing down to help get a sharp crease.  Your average cello tape is probably not going to cut it and keep the flaps from staying put, so I recommend some extra strong double-sided tape like American Crafts’ Sticky Thumb super sticky tape for that. *

DIY Gift Wrap with the Revolution by Rebecca Luminarias for We R Memory Keepers

On the first box, wrapped in an orange stripe paper, I cut out 5 leafy branches to create a wreath.  The paper I used has a black background with an orange and green design so it’s a nice contrast to the lighter wrap.

DIY Gift Wrap with the Revolution by Rebecca Luminarias for We R Memory Keepers

I chose a good-sized ‘thank you’ die with some gold glitter paper for the sentiment, but if you’d rather put a name or initial there, that would work, too.  You can easily change the sentiment for a different occasion, as well.  The final step for this gift was a black ribbon bow.

DIY Gift Wrap with the Revolution by Rebecca Luminarias for We R Memory Keepers

My next gift is another box, this time wrapped in green paper.  I chose something dark because I had already cut a bunch of oak leaves out of some of the lighter floral patterns from the Faded Floral stack.  I gently shaped the leaves with a bone folder, giving them a slight curl upward.  Then I arranged a group of 5 leaves on the left side of the box.  They splay out, almost like a pinwheel, and when I tied the peach ribbon around the box, I tied the bow in the center of the leaf pile, where all of the stems meet.  A small tag and a ‘thanks’ die cut finish off this gift.

DIY Gift Wrap with the Revolution by Rebecca Luminarias for We R Memory Keepers

You don’t have to save the die cuts just to use on wrapped boxes, though.  They’re functional for any kind of package.  My last gift is a small box with a copper-painted top.  This box is incredibly simple to duplicate, but it’s still so pretty!  I cut 3 more oak leaves from the loveliest paper (it complements the gift box wonderfully) and situated the trio like a bouquet on the box top.

DIY Gift Wrap with the Revolution by Rebecca Luminarias for We R Memory Keepers

This was followed by a length of black ribbon tied in a bow; I waited to adhere the leaves until the ribbon was in place, as it works as a guide so you can be sure the leaves are centered on the box.

DIY Gift Wrap with the Revolution by Rebecca Luminarias for We R Memory Keepers

I chose another single word die to place on top of the leaves and cut it from black glitter paper for an elegant contrast.  Something like this would make a very pretty party or wedding favor package.  It’s simple and inexpensive if you die cut the leaves and words yourself.

DIY Gift Wrap with the Revolution by Rebecca Luminarias for We R Memory Keepers

I can’t recommend decorating your packages with die cuts enough!  The results are always fun and if you have the supplies, it definitely beats paying $3+ for a store-bought bow.  And did I mention that the Revolution makes the task so much easier with a 6″ x 8″ magnetic platform?  I got a clean, crisp cut every time and now I’ve got 3 lovely gifts ready for delivery.
