DIY Patriotic Decor with the Foil Quill

Hey there We R friends, it’s Aly here again! Happy Wednesday, and welcome to the blog. Tomorrow is Independence Day for us here in the U.S., and I’ve got a festive patriotic DIY decor idea to share with you featuring the Foil Quill.

The focal point of my patriotic decor is this vinyl sign that I made with the Foil Quill and the Crate Paper Magnet Studio 10×14 frame.

Foiled Vinyl Patriotic Sign with the Foil Quill by We R Memory Keepers

The design file comes from the We R Holiday USB Drive, which has 200 SVG files perfect for cutting or foiling for any holiday during the year.

IMG-0305

I started by opening the design in my software and resizing it to fit my frame. Then I created a simple circle pattern to foil over the vinyl before cutting it out. Watch the video below to see how I was able to foil and cut this project with my Silhouette Cameo 3.

Once I completed my foiled vinyl design and added it to my frame, I wanted to create a few more DIY decor items to accompany it. First, I used the Tassel Loom to make what I call a Waterfall Tassel Garland. I simply made my 6 inch tassels, and then used a yarn needle to string them all together and hang them.

Next, I made a couple of mini garlands with some gold glitter paper and a gold mylar sheet. I used my circle and star Mini Clear Cut Punches (1 inch) to make them.

I love using them to punch out lots of shapes from my paper scraps because I can move them anywhere on my paper to punch, which means I can use EVERY INCH of my paper scraps. So satisfying, right?!?

I threw in a flag and a plant decorated with blue striped washi tape to complete my patriotic vignette, and I love how it turned out!

Craft Room Storage Ideas

Hello We R friends, and Happy Friday! Today I’ve got some tips for storing and organizing your craft supplies. For a while I’ve had a few problem spots in my craft room. I’ve known they need reorganization, but I wasn’t sure how to go about it and I didn’t want to take a lot of time.

Craft Room Storage Ideas featuring Plastic Storage by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

Enter the new We R Plastic Storage! The 3 Tier Snap Box and the Craft Tool Box are the perfect solutions for getting my embossing tape and folders, and my Stitch Happy thread and accessories organized and easy to find. The sizes and variety of dividers fit my needs perfectly!

Craft Room Storage Ideas featuring Plastic Storage by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

Let’s start with my Stitch Happy thread, accessories and punch needle supplies. Up until recently I kept all these items in a simple basket, which kept everything together but made it difficult to find the item I was looking for. The thread on my spools and bobbins came unwound, and I worried about my threaders getting damaged. The Craft Tool Box works perfectly for keeping everything separate and safe, and I love that I can see through the box and easily identify what’s inside.

Craft Room Storage Ideas featuring Plastic Storage by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

The top shelf fits my Stitch Happy scissors, needles, threader and solid thread perfectly. The dividers are arranged so the sections are different sizes, which is really helpful for storing different size items.

Craft Room Storage Ideas featuring Plastic Storage by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

The second level fits my bobbins perfectly, my Stitch Happy Baker’s Twine and my metallic thread. Again, the sections are divided into different sizes which works perfectly for both bobbins and thread spools.

Craft Room Storage Ideas featuring Plastic Storage by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

The bottom of the box has no dividers, so it’s perfect for larger items. This is where my Stitch Happy Pen, frame, stencils and accessories live. I love keeping these items all together so I can either sew by hand, or with my Stitch Happy sewing machine easily. All I need to do is grab my Craft Tool Box!

Craft Room Storage Ideas featuring Plastic Storage by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

My next problem spot was my embossing tape and folder storage. I basically had everything tossed in a bin and still in the packaging, so I’m glad I have them organized properly now.

Craft Room Storage Ideas featuring Plastic Storage by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

I divided the tape up by color family (warm, cool, metallic + neutral) and stored each in a separate tier of the Snap Box. Since the dividers are removeable, I also included embossing folders in the tiers by removing the two middle dividers on one side.

I love that the box has three tiers that snap together so I can keep everything well organized, but I can also grab them all together at the same time when I’m ready to do some embossing.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope these tips have helped you with your craft room storage and organization. Have a great weekend!

Foil Quill Patriotic Scrapbook Page

Hello, We R friends! Enza here, and today I’m sharing a patriotic layout featuring the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill. I’m amazed by the beautiful results I get every single time; this foiling system is easy to use and, with so many designs to choose from, the possibilities are endless.

Patriotic Scrapbook Page with the Foil Quill by Enza Gudor for We R Memory Keepers

When I think of the 4th of July, I think of stars. The Paige Evans digital drive offers several star designs that are perfect to give your projects variety and a fun vibe. I uploaded the images to my Silhouette software and modified their size so to have small, medium and big stars. Make sure to select the Sketch Pen option before sending the paper to cut and secure the foil with tape to ensure it’s wrinkle-free. I went with silver foil for a festive, sparkly look – I love how it looks on dark blue cardstock! Once ready, I fussy cut the stars before layering them to form a cluster behind the photo.

Patriotic Scrapbook Page with the Foil Quill by Enza Gudor for We R Memory Keepers

The collection I used is one of my favorites from Pink Paislee: Sweet Freedom; even though it’s a couple of years old, I love the patterns and muted colors. I arranged the stars towards the right side of the layout and placed the photo on top after layering several tags and frames behind it. I used the Tag Punch Board and the Frame Punch Board for this – I don’t know what I would do without such handy tools! Everything was adhered down with foam dots for dimension.

Next, I embellished around the photo with die-cuts, stickers, and fussy cut elements. To create balance, I formed another cluster of embellishments to the left side of the layout. Black and gold paint splatters gave the final touch.

This layout is very simple, but I love how it turned out. Those sparkly stars are everything!

Thank you for stopping by today. I hope I have inspired you to give the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill a try and create beautiful, shiny projects with it.

Father’s Day Mini Album

I made a mini album for Father’s Day. In Germany we already celebrated this day two weeks ago. My daughter painted small pictures and wrote letters for her dad. These should come into the album.

Father´s Day Mini Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory Keepers

Father´s Day Mini Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory Keepers

Father´s Day Mini Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory Keepers

So I wanted to integrate little pockets into the album. All the little letters should come into these. This gave me the idea to do the whole album with the Pocket Maker Punchboard. Also the book cover should be a pocket.

We R Memory Keepers Pocket Maker Punch Board

The inner part consists of 6 pockets. I created them all with the Pocket Maker Punchboard. This was very quick and easy. For one pocket I used a painted picture of my daughter. Also a photo is suitable well for a bag. Here you have to be careful that the motive is not too big. So that it is not cut off during folding.

We R Memory Keepers Pocket Maker Punch Board

Please note that the bottom side of the pockets is not glued. This must be open so that the pockets can be sewn to the spine of the book.

Mini Clear Cut Circle Punch by We R Memory Keeprs

If you still want to edit the pockets with the Mini Clear Cut Punch or the Word Punch Board, do so before the bags are bound into the album.

Word Punch Board by We R Memory Keepers

When you’ve finished the bags, the book cover will be made. I have made this bag longer than the size shown in the table. I wrote the measurement on the photo. I hope you can see it.

Pocket Maker Punch board by We R Memory Keepers

The pocket is narrow and long. The spine is 1.25 inch wide. So that the 6 pockets have enough space.

Trim and Score Board by We R Memory Keepers

Maybe you can see it on the photo. I folded the bag at 3 inches and at 1 ¾ inch.

Trim and Score Board by We R Memory Keepers

That’s what your book cover looks like. Now glue the back pocket to the book cover.

Father´s Day by Steffi Ried Tutorial 8

Then the remaining pockets are attached to the spine of the book with the Book Binding Guide. I have sketched the inside of the spine. Whereby on my picture a dot is missing.

I made this only for orientation. The distance can vary afterwards. Because there are 5 pockets, which are sewn in.

Father´s Day by Steffi Ried Tutorial 9

Now the lower fold is fastened from the pocket into the ruler. Therefore the flap must be open. I have attached the bag to the spine of the book with clamps. So that it does not shift. Now prick the holes for the normal book binding with the needle.

Father´s Day by Steffi Ried Tutorial 10

That’s what it looks like on the spine of the book.

If the bag is attached to the spine of the book, the bottom side of the bag can be glued.

Here is a short video and photos from the finished album.

Father’s Day Party Decor

Hello everyone! It’s Eva on the blog today sharing a Father’s Day Decoration using some of my favorite We R tools

Father's Day Party Decor by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers

To create this décor I started by picking patterned paper. I love the vintage tones of the Sunny Days collection by Crate Paper so I choose some blues, a yellow and added a turquoise.

The first thing I did was create my garland. My used my Fringe and Score Board to score my paper every ½ inch. You can use your regular Score Board by I love the Fringe and Score because it can score 5 lines at a time. Super fast!

Fringe and Score Board by We R Memory Keepers

Next, I cut 6×6 inch squares, made accordions and bend them in the middle to create fans.

Father's Day Party Decor by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers

I glue some facing up and some facing down to create a garland.

Father's Day Party Decor by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers

Next, I worked on my glasses. I used my Foil Quill and the Heidi Swapp USB Drive to add the phrase “It’s your day” to vinyl.

If you want to add some inner lives to your design simply choose lines on the “Emboss” menu. You can edit spacing and angle on the lines. Before using the Foil Quill remember to hit the “Release Emboss” button.

Father-Day-Party-Decor-by-Eva-Pizarro-5

Use some gold foil and the medium tip to foil your vinyl. Next, remove the Gold Foil and cut the edges with the blade. If you have a machine with just one tool be careful not to fully unload the vinyl or your cut may turn out in the wrong position.

Father's Day Party Decor by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers

Weed your vinyl and attach them to your glasses. The result is perfect!

I also created some flags for my paper straws. I used the Washi Chomper and that little tool perfectly cut 2 sheets of paper!

To decorate my muffins I made some bowties using my 1,2,3 Punch Board and some cupcake liners using the DIY Party Board. Easy and super cute!

Glue the bowties to some skewers and insert them to your muffins.

Once I was assembling everything I noticed I had some fans left so I added them to the table and it really help bringing everything together!

I also included a letter board with the “Dad, have a great day” phrase. I tried my best to stay in my color combination. That helps the décor feel cohesive and cute.

I hope you liked these decorations and that you can use them for your next party. Thanks for joining me to the end of this long post.

Best Of Summer Traveler’s Note Book

Hello everybody! Soraya here today to talk about summertime and all the good memories we like to document during our vacations. Here is a tutorial for you to create your own traveler notebook using the Book Binding Guide, the Word Punch Board and other yummy We R Memory Keepers tools!

Best of Summer Traveler's Notebook by Soraya Maes for We R Memory Keepers

First of all, let’s make the structure. Cut the cover of the notebook in a patterned paper measuring 19,7 x 25 cm. Score the middle of the paper with a spine of 1cm.

BestOfSummer by Soraya Maes-2We R Memory Keepers Trim and Score Board

To make the inserts, take 8 normal paper sheets measuring 24×19,7cm and fold them in the middle. Separate them in 2 inserts of 4 sheets. Use the Trim & Score Board for an easy control.

Best of Summer Traveler's Notebook by Soraya Maes for We R Memory KeepersBest of Summer Traveler's Notebook by Soraya Maes for We R Memory Keepers

Let’s bind the inserts in the TN ! Use the Book Binding tool to pierce the inserts in the middle of their spine. Then repeat the process for the cover by piercing 2 ranges of holes all along the score you previously folded.

With a pink thread and an needle, sew the inserts on the cover and tie a knot to secure the points. You have more details about the sewing style in the instruction book, but don’t worry these are very simple to make !

This TN needs a tassel ! So grab your Tassel Loom and create a beautiful pink pompom. Then use the Crop-A-Dile to place an eyelet on the top of the spine. This is by where we’ll attach the tassel.

We R Memory Keepers Tassel LoomWe R Memory Keepers Tassel LoomBest of Summer Traveler's Notebook by Soraya Maes for We R Memory Keepers

With the Word Punch Board (I love this tool so much!) create the word « summer » on a blue paper. Place an eyelet and a white paper on the back for the constrast. Add some pretty pearls on the tassel before attaching everything through the notebook spine.

And voilà ! Your handmade TN is finally done ! Look how it is colorful ! Just add some embellishments on the cover and prepare the inner pages for the fun !

Neon Movie Lights

Hello We R Fans! Kimberly here today with a super fun project that I cannot wait to use this summer! All summer long we have outdoor movies in our backyard. We have a massive screen and a fabulous sound system and we enjoy warm summer evenings with our friends watching classic movies that we all love! Having snacks in the dark can be a challenge, so I have been using flashlights and other things with not great results. As soon as I saw the Neon Wire and the Big Happy Jig from We R Memory Keepers, I KNEW that I would be making signs for our movie nights!

Big Happy Jig neon movie lights Kimberly Crawford

To begin with, the We R Memory Keepers Big Happy Jig is HUGE! This is a board for making home décor sized pieces and it is awesome! You can adjust any patterns from the standard Happy Jig and use them. The only factor is, when moving up to the bigger size, multiply the wire needed by 2.5. (Conversely, if you take a large pattern to the small, you would divide by 2.5.) The rest of the pattern works the same.

Big Happy Jig neon movie lights Kimberly Crawford 2

When using the Big Happy Jig, the pegs are placed up through the bottom of the board. The small pegs can be used, or larger adaptors can be added to the top. I did find that with the Neon Wire, using the smaller pegs helped my particular designs. Meaning, I found it easier to bend the wire during laying out the design.

Big Happy Jig neon movie lights Kimberly Crawford 3

Because I was using the We R Memory Keepers Neon Wire I DID NOT cut my wire until the end and my design was complete. I also made sure that I started my design where the battery pack connects to the wire, making sure to leave a little extra wire hanging off, just in case.

Big Happy Jig neon movie lights Kimberly Crawford 4

Once the design is complete, snip the wire. Take the plastic cap from the very end of the wire and place it over your cut end.

Big Happy Jig neon movie lights Kimberly Crawford 5

To help keep my design in the desired shape, I used monofilament (or clear fishing line) to tie the ends together. It brought a nice stabilization and is not visible, unless you look really, really close.

Big Happy Jig neon movie lights Kimberly Crawford

For my first sign, I created a popcorn box. I used two different colors of Neon Wire. The coolest part about using two colors is, I can control the top AND bottom of the design. The controller on the Neon Wire has several settings; off, steady on, blinking, and rapid blinking. I will be able to keep the popcorn box solid, but have blinking popcorn! How cool is that?!?!

Big Happy Jig neon movie lights Kimberly Crawford

For my second sign, I created the word movie. This is going to look so incredible on the snack table! I adhered it to a sign I had in my crafty stash and wow!

Big Happy Jig neon movie lights Kimberly Crawford

Finally, a look at these neon signs in the dark! Can you believe it?! I am head-over-heels for these signs! I even made a few more designs and I cannot wait to find frames to back them with! What a fun addition to our evenings!

What neon signs would you make?

DIY Neon Sign for Kids

Hello We R fans, it’s Aly back with you today sharing a recent kids craft I created for my daughter’s room. She’s worked so hard this school year and learned so much! She’s reached her academic goals, so I wanted to surprise her with something fun to decorate her room.

DIY Kids Neon Sign by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

She’s our little fish! She loves to swim and is on our local swim team. She’s also really obsessed with narwhals right now and her name is Faith, so I decided to grab my Big Happy Jig and a few colors of Neon Wire and this is what I came up with!

DIY Kids Neon Sign by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Big Happy Jig and Neon Wire

To create these designs I started by checking out our dedicated Happy Jig Instagram freed (@werhappyjig). That’s where I found the narwhal template–score! I pulled up Instagram on my laptop to make the template large enough to follow easily.

DIY Kids Neon Sign by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Big Happy Jig and Neon Wire

Then, I used some other word templates on the IG account that have the letters I needed to piece together my daughter’s name. The waves are a design I created on my own with a little trial and error.

DIY Kids Neon Sign by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers 1

I used some coordinating Happy Jig wire to hold sections of the designs together to help keep their shape. I’m really happy with how they all turned out!

DIY Kids Neon Sign by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

I grabbed a 12×18 poster frame from another project I never started (yes, I have a few of those lying around in my office). I filled the frame with a 12×18 sheet of white poster board. Then I used dimensional clear adhesive dots to attach two of the designs to the frame, and wrapped the battery packs around the back of the frame to attach them out of sight.

DIY Kids Neon Sign by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers 1

I hung the frame on the wall with some Command Hooks, and then placed the waves on the desk leaning against the wall. I put a plant next to the saves to hide the battery pack for the wave. There are lots of creative ways to hide those little guys!

I love that the battery pack has four setting: Off, On-Solid, On-Flashing, and On-Rapid Flashing. That means my daughter has plenty of options for her new room decor.

Kids Craft: Door Hangers

Hello, We R friends. Enza here, and today I’m sharing a fun project that you can easily make with or for your kids. I love crafting with my kids. My oldest daughter is very creative and truly enjoys playing with papers and We R Memory Keepers tools. When I asked her to give me an idea for this assignment, she said: “Why don’t we make those door hangers we’ve been talking about a lot lately?” She was so excited, I couldn’t say no 🙂

I used several tools, some old some new.

Door Hangers Kids Craft by Enza Gudor for We R Memory Keepers

We started by trimming patterned paper from the gorgeous Sparkle City collection by Shimelle to measure 5.5×6.5 inches; then using the Banner Punch Board, we created the banner shapes to use as our base.

Door Hangers Kids Craft by Enza Gudor for We R Memory Keepers

One of the tools I’ve been enjoying lately is the Ribbon Stitching Tool – so easy to use, and the effect is super pretty! We placed the paper between the magnetic guides and pierced it with the provided tool. The guides kept the paper from shifting, so the cut was precise and sharp. To pass the ribbon through the holes, we used the adhesive needle that comes with the tool.

Door Hangers Kids Craft by Enza Gudor for We R Memory Keepers featuring the RIbbon Stitching Tool

Once that was done, we cut another banner, smaller than the first one, and machine-stitched it to the base using the Stitch Happy Sewing Machine. We also punched stars from patterned paper with the new 1 inch Clear Cut Punch. We decided to create some dimension by layering the stars and adhering them with foam dots; embellishments from the same collection finished the front.

For the handle, we just hot glued pom pom ribbon to the back and added two paper tassels from the Crate Paper All Heart collection on one side.
