Make a Halloween Mini Album with the Foil Quill

Hello We R fans! It’s Aly here with you today to share an easy and impactful Halloween scrapbooking project. I used the Foil Quill and my Silhouette Cameo to create custom foiled patterned paper and titles to make my album. Check it out!

Let me show you how I made this Foil Quill Halloween Mini Album! First, I foiled some spider web designs on black cardstock to make custom foiled patterned paper. I sized the images to 6 inches so I could cut them down and make 2 3/4 x 2 3/4 pockets.

IMG_1216IMG_1217

Using the Magnetic Mat made the job quicker since I was foiling only and not cutting. I used the Standard Tip and a Silver 12×12 Foil Sheet. The spider web designs are from my personal SVG library, and the words and phrases are from THIS Hello Heidi Digital Halloween Bundle.

IMG_1219

I trimmed the paper down to the size indicated on the Pocket Punch Board to make 2 3/4 x 2 3/4 inch notch pockets, and made my pockets.

IMG_1228IMG_1229

I cut tags from different black and white patterned papers with the Tag Punch Board, and then I punched out some stars and half moons using the Mini Clear Cut Punches.

Foil Pumpkin Ornaments with the Freestyle Pen

Hello We R friends, Laura here today. I have been busy decorating my house for fall. I always find fun craft blanks at the dollar store. I found some cute wooden pumpkin ornaments to decorate and thought they would be perfect to use with the Foil Quill Freestyle Pen.

Foil Quill Freestyle Pen Pumpkin Ornaments by Laura Silva for We R Memory Keepers

Start by painting your wooden pumpkins. You could leave the wood grain depending on your design, but I thought painting them orange and green first would really make the foil stand out.

Foil Quill Freestyle Pen Pumpkin Ornaments by Laura Silva for We R Memory Keepers

Allow them to dry thoroughly. This doesn’t take long if you are using acrylic paint.

For the first pumpkin, I freehanded lines on the pumpkin with orange foil.

Then, I used a Heatwave stencil to create a little green pumpkin vine and leaves. I found it was easiest to line up the stencil by cutting my foil to the size of the design I was tracing.

On the next pumpkin I wanted to add our name to the pumpkin. I don’t always love my handwriting, so I designed something on my computer and printed it out on regular copy paper.

I taped the copy paper in place on my pumpkin first to make sure I had everything lined up correctly. Then I carefully lifted the copy paper and placed my foil underneath. I taped it in place, so it didn’t move while I was writing.

I used both the bold and fine tip pens for the words. I used the bold Freestyle Foil Quill pen for the cursive and the fine tipped one for words THE and FAMILY.

To get good coverage with the pens when using a paper template, I found it was best to go slowly and to press firmly. I got good results using this method, but you could also print out your design using a thinner paper like tracing paper.

Tie ribbon to the top of the ornament to hang.

These fun ornaments look so cute with the rest of my fall décor at the house. You could also use this technique to make an adorable gift tag for a present.

How to Foil on 3D Projects with the Freestyle Pen

Autumn is already coming around here. I like to decorate our house for it.

Over the last few days I have foiled many objects with the Foil Quill Pen. And I created my first 3D project without paper. Yes really! Without paper. And I love it.

Foil on your Fall Decor with the Freestyle Pen by Steffi Ried for We R Memory Keepers

I really wanted to foil our autumn decor with the Freestyle Foil Quill Pen. So first I bought some pumpkins and painted them. The decoration should be bright and light. After I painted the pumpkin with white acrylic paint, I used the Freestyle Pen (Standard). A few hearts foiled with rose gold on it and it’s done! Totally simple. I was surprised how easy it works.

In autumn I like candles very much as decoration on the table. So I foiled some candles with the Free Style Pen.

At first, I tested on a few old candles. I found out that you should write quickly. Because the hot tip of the pen melts the wax. But with a little practice it is quite simple. First fix the foil with the Washi Tape to the candle. Then, draw your design with the pen.

Excess wax can easily be scraped off with scissors. This way the unattractive areas can be repaired.

Finally I foiled some leaves on acetate with the Freestyle Pen. Then I simply cut them out with scissors.

I decorated the vase with the foil leaves. I scattered the remaining leaves on the table. Maybe I’ll make a garland out of them. My daughter already has an plan.

How to Make a Planner Spread with the Foil Quill

Hello everybody ! Soraya here today to share a new tutorial using the amazing Foil Quill tools ! You will be able to create your own spread designs (tabs, titles, boxes and more!) to decorate your journal or planner. Let’s get started !

How to make a planner spread with the Foil Quill by Soraya Maes for We R Memory KeepersStep 1 : Prepare your cardstock

As I wanted to go on a very new spread, I decided to use one of the Foil Quill neutrals smooth papers. I cut 2 parts of 13x22cm then placed them on my Silhouette cutting mat.

How to make a planner spread with the Foil Quill by Soraya Maes for We R Memory Keepers

Step 2 : Place the foil

I used the new Foil Cutting Kit in order to trim the golden foil. This magnetic mat and this circular cutter are truly making a difference by making it easier! The washi tape is now placed all around the foil.

Here’s a tip for you : save the Foil leftovers for your Freestyle Pen crafts!

Step 3 : Create the designs

To create the look of my journal spread, I used some designs in the USB drive of Kelly Creates and Paige Taylor Evans. Those drives are simply awesome : so many designs and words to play with!

How to make a planner spread with the Foil Quill by Soraya Maes for We R Memory Keepers

So first of all, on my Silhouette Studio, I reproduced the pages so I could easily see where the designs have to be placed. Then I added some tabs and boxes using the drawing options. I placed the title on top and added some flower designs in each box. Before sending it to the cutting machine, I deleted the lines I created for the pages at first.

Now that my designs are set up, let’s launch the Foil process! For my Silhouette I picked the “A” adapter then plugged it in to a battery pack.

Once everything is ready, it’s time to jump into the most exciting moment: the Foil Quill magic!

Step 5 : Coloring delights

We’re almost done with our journal spread! Punch the holes according to your binder or planner sizes with the Crop-A-Dile. Now take some time to add colors and fun to the Foil designs with watercolors. See how the Foil is resisting and showcasing the happy colors.

I’m so happy with how it turned! I just love everything about the Foil Quill technology: it’s easy, fun and above all, it has so many creative posibilities!

How to Make a Baby Scrapbook Page with the Foil Quill

Hello everyone! It’s Eva on the blog today, sharing a fun and easy baby layout using my Foil Quill Pen.

Baby Scrapbook Page by Eva Pizarro featuring the Foil Quill by We R Memory Keepers

The Foil Quill is perfect to create backgrounds for your layouts and add small accents! You can also use the USB drives to foil hundreds of images.

For this layout, I used the Holiday drive and chose this cute cloud that I thought coordinated perfectly with the designs from the Peek-a-boo You line from Pebbles.

Foil Quill Layout by Eva Pizarro 2

On my Silhouette Studio Software, I ungrouped the elements and erased the raindrops. Next, I hit the “Release Compound Path” button to erase a few faces from the clouds.

Foil Quill Layout by Eva Pizarro 3Foil Quill Layout by Eva Pizarro 4

Using the Emboss/Deboss menu,  I created a few patterns to fill my clouds. Simply select the image you want and then the pattern. I choose the line and modified the spacing and angle. Remember to hit the “Release Emboss” otherwise you are not going to be able to sketch it.

Next, I wrote a sentiment with the Alpha Tool and weld the letters together. I also filled these letters with a pattern, but this time, I used the concentric pattern and adjust the spacing to 0,5.

Foil Quill Layout by Eva Pizarro 8Foil Quill Layout by Eva Pizarro 9Foil Quill Layout by Eva Pizarro 10

I wanted to cut my phrase so I added a cut line with the “Offset” tool. I did this with some clouds also.

Foil Quill Layout by Eva Pizarro 11

Now it is time to Foil and Cut! If you are just foiling I recommend you use the magnetic mat, it is amazing! I wanted to Foil and Cut so I used my regular mat and secure the foil with the Foil Quill Tape.

When you hit the send button all your images are going to be red, that means that all the lines are going to be cut or sketched by the machine. If you have a machine with two tools you can select all the foil lines with Tool 1 and all the cut lines (the phrase and clouds borders) with Tool 2.

I have a machine with just one tool so I selected the cut lines and hit “No Sketch”. I sent everything to my machine, removed the foil (without unloading the mat) and then selected those 4 border lines and cut them.

To foil my images I used the 12×12 Foil Sheets in gold and the medium tip. The results were beautiful! Even on textured paper the foil transferred perfectly.

The foil looks gorgeous when you move the page and I love that with one design you can achieve different looks!

Baby Scrapbook Page by Eva Pizarro featuring the Foil Quill by We R Memory Keepers

My title also came out great, remember to adjust the spacing of the filling pattern so you don’t have any gaps in the middle!

The Foil Quill is definitely a game changer! Simple, fast and gorgeous results every time! What do you want to foil next?

“Welcome Fall” Sign with the Freestyle Pens

Hello everyone. Enza here, and today I’m sharing a home décor piece created with one of the new We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill Freestyle Pens. These pens are amazing! Easy to use and very versatile. I have to admit, I was a bit apprehensive about this assignment. I’m not very good at drawing free-hand and my stash of stencils didn’t include a big, cursive quote that I could trace and “color” with foil. Then I came across a cut file I had been saving for a while. I loved the font and the design, and I thought it would look good enlarged to fit a 12×12 cardstock.

Here it is:

"Welcome Fall" sign featuring Foil Quill Freestyle Pen by Enza Gudor for We R Memory Keepers

I apologize if I don’t have a full, frontal picture of the project. I wanted to show the beautiful gold foil on the orange cardstock, and this was the best way to do it 😉

I started by cutting the design with my electronic die cutting machine. As I mentioned above, I enlarged the quote to fit a 12×12 paper. I then layered the cardstock, a sheet of 12×12 gold foil, and my cut file on top.

"Welcome Fall" sign featuring Foil Quill Freestyle Pen by Enza Gudor for We R Memory Keepers

I secured the bottom paper to my work table with the Foil Quill Placement Tape and did the same with the cut file. You want to make sure there is no shifting, so to obtain a clean design.

I used the Foil Quill Freestyle Bold Tip Pen, as the negative space of the cut file was pretty big – another option would be the Calligraphy Tip Pen; it has a wide tip and can help cut down on time.

"Welcome Fall" sign featuring Foil Quill Freestyle Pen by Enza Gudor for We R Memory Keepers

For the little pieces inside the letters, I just kept them in place with my fingers and went around them with the pen. This is what made the process a bit long, but it was totally worth it in the end.

Once I was done with the quote, I picked a rose gold colored foil sheet from the Foil Quill Flamingo assorted pack and, using the same cut file, I added more shiny dots around the words.

I finished my project with lots of flowers from the Pink Paislee Auburn Lane collection and pom pom ribbon along the top and bottom edges of the paper.

I hope this has given you some more ideas on how to use the amazing Foil Quill Freestyle Pens. Thank you for stopping by.

Fall Cider Bar with the Foil Quill Freestyle Pens

Hey guys, Aly Dosdall here. Fall is on the way, and before you know it, it will be sweater weather! One of my favorite fall traditions is apple cider. I have a hot cup almost every night during the cold weather (sugar free, of course). I’m so inpsired by my love for cider, that I decided to create this fun idea for a fall get-together–an apple cider bar!

Apple Cider Bar with the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quil Freestyle Pens and the DCWV Inc Cider Woods paper stack. Supplies for this project are available at Joann Stores.

Throw this together after an evening at the corn maze or pumpkin patch, and enjoy some yummy warm drinks and fall snacks! This project features the Foil Quill Freestyle Pens, and I love the sparkle the foil adds to this pretty fall scene.

For the fall leaf backdrop, I cut out some leaf shapes with my Silhouette Cameo 3. I used some shapes from the Foil Quill USB Drives, and others from my personal library of SVG files.

The focal piece of this party decor is the banner, which I created with the Banner Punch Board, some black smooth cardstock, the Alphabet Punch Board and papers from the DCWV Inc Cider Woods stack, available at Joann Stores. To add foil to the banner, I used a metal magnetic ruler, magnetic mat, and the Calligraphy Tip Freestyle Pen to get the wide lines.

Apple Cider Bar with the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quil Freestyle Pens and the DCWV Inc Cider Woods paper stack. Supplies for this project are available at Joann Stores.

I also made some bottle tags for the apple cider! I love the copper foil with the cider–it looks so warm and inviting.

I handwrote these tags, and then punched them out with the bracket Clear Cut Punch. If you have great handwriting, it looks pretty cool, but even if you don’t love your handwriting, it’s a wonderful way to add a personal touch to your projects–your own writing in foil! So cool!

IMG_0264

Here’s how I made the bottle tags–super easy! I cut 3×7 inch blocks of patterned paper, rounded the corners with the 3 Way Corner Rounder, scored them in half, and then punched a 2 inch hole in the center of one half. (You can save the leftover 2 inch circles for another project.)

Apple Cider Bar with the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quil Freestyle Pens and the DCWV Inc Cider Woods paper stack. Supplies for this project are available at Joann Stores.

To make the cinnamon streusel muffin topper I used one of the Heatwave Stencils, and punched the letters out with the Tag Clear Cut Punch.

Again, I used the Calligraphy Tip Pen to fill in the letters from my Heatwave Stencil. This would also make a great cake or cupcake topper!

IMG_0276

Then I made some embellishments for the cups holding the cider mix-ins: one cup of caramels (drop them in and let them melt, then stir) and one cup of cinnamon sticks (place them in and stir, then let them sit).

The technique for making these is one of my favorites to use with the Freestyle Pens! I printed the fall images on thin copy paper and then placed the printed images over the foil, which was over my cardstock. The foil transfers beautifully even with the copy paper on top. You can also use vellum or tracing paper. Then I punched out the foiled designs.

58770770029__F033E73E-7355-4499-86A3-E1CD9DE33B79

The images I used are PNG files from the Holiday Foil Quill USB Drive. Each USB drive has both SVG and PNG files, and you can open the PNG files in a word document and print them for tracing!

I love how the Freestyle Pens add such a special touch to my fall project. I can’t wait to use them for holiday projects too!

Make Halloween Party Favors with the Freestyle Pens

Hey there We R fans, Laura here today. Halloween will be upon us very soon! I like to get a jump start on party planning ahead of time. Today, I am sharing how to embellish some cute Halloween party favors using the new Foil Quill Freestyle Pen.

Halloween Party Favors by Laura Silva for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Foil Quill Freestyle Pens

Plug in and allow your Foil Quill Freestyle Pen to heat up.

Start by filling a 4 x 4 photo sleeve with Halloween favors. I filled mine with some candy pumpkins, a jelly bracelet, stickers, an eraser, and a small bat ring. Use the FUSE tool to close the top of the photo sleeve to create a little bag.

Halloween Party Favors by Laura Silva for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Foil Quill Freestyle Pens

Next, use papers from the DCWV Happy Halloween stack to create a bag topper. To do this, cut a piece of cardstock 4 ½” wide by 4 inches tall. Use the scoring tool to score the paper at the 2” mark. Fold the paper in half and attach to the top of the bag using adhesive.

Halloween Party Favors by Laura Silva for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Foil Quill Freestyle Pens

Next, create two banner shapes to attach to the front of the bag using the banner punch board. The first strip of patterned paper is 4 ½” long and 2” wide. Then, cut a strip of black Foil Quill cardstock 2 ½” wide.

Using the Foil Quill magnetic mat, first lay down a blank sheet of paper (to catch any foil that extends beyond the cardstock), then the strip of black cardstock, and on top a sheet of orange foil. Use the magnets to keep everything in place. Extend the foil a little above the top edge and side of the cardstock strip.

Use the standard tip to draw a spiderweb and spider in the upper left corner. I drew a little spider hanging off the web and then wrote Happy Halloween.

Cut the bottom of the black cardstock strip using the banner punch board to create a 4” long flag. I added a small Halloween puffy sticker to the bottom of each tag to give them a little extra dimension.

The foil detail is so much fun! It doesn’t take much longer than simply writing on the banner shape with a regular pen or marker.

Clip the two banner shapes onto the favor bag using a bat clothespin. These adorable Halloween party favors are perfect to hand out at your Halloween party, get together, or class party.
