Foil Quill Patriotic Scrapbook Page

Hello, We R friends! Enza here, and today I’m sharing a patriotic layout featuring the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill. I’m amazed by the beautiful results I get every single time; this foiling system is easy to use and, with so many designs to choose from, the possibilities are endless.

Patriotic Scrapbook Page with the Foil Quill by Enza Gudor for We R Memory Keepers

When I think of the 4th of July, I think of stars. The Paige Evans digital drive offers several star designs that are perfect to give your projects variety and a fun vibe. I uploaded the images to my Silhouette software and modified their size so to have small, medium and big stars. Make sure to select the Sketch Pen option before sending the paper to cut and secure the foil with tape to ensure it’s wrinkle-free. I went with silver foil for a festive, sparkly look – I love how it looks on dark blue cardstock! Once ready, I fussy cut the stars before layering them to form a cluster behind the photo.

The collection I used is one of my favorites from Pink Paislee: Sweet Freedom; even though it’s a couple of years old, I love the patterns and muted colors. I arranged the stars towards the right side of the layout and placed the photo on top after layering several tags and frames behind it. I used the Tag Punch Board and the Frame Punch Board for this – I don’t know what I would do without such handy tools! Everything was adhered down with foam dots for dimension.

Next, I embellished around the photo with die-cuts, stickers, and fussy cut elements. To create balance, I formed another cluster of embellishments to the left side of the layout. Black and gold paint splatters gave the final touch.

This layout is very simple, but I love how it turned out. Those sparkly stars are everything!

Thank you for stopping by today. I hope I have inspired you to give the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill a try and create beautiful, shiny projects with it.

Patriotic Cards with the Foil Quill

Hey there!  It’s Rebecca with you today, looking forward to summer!  It’s nearly July, time for bar-b-ques, fireworks, and celebrating the birthday of the USA.  To help celebrate this time of year, I turned to my Foil Quill and Silhouette Cameo to create some patriotic cards.

Foil Quill Patriotic Cards by Rebecca Luminarias for We R Memory Keepers

First, I had to pick the right images, and I thought that stars and a map of America seemed fitting for this occasion.  I found the map in the Amy Tangerine USB Art; the stars are from Paige Evans.  Next, I thought of some quotes I could pair with the images, like ‘let freedom ring’ and ‘land of the free, home of the brave.’  I used fonts that I had on my computer already (Lisbon – ‘Land of the free…’ / Kind Heart Duo – ‘let freedom ring’).  If you’re lacking for fonts, most of the American Crafts USB artwork drives have some great typography included on them, and are worth checking out.

The color scheme was a no-brainer–red, white, and blue, of course, with some shiny silver added to the mix.  The silver foil looks great on dark cardstocks like the navy blue and red that I chose.  I found that the red foil showed up really well on the navy blue, as well.

Foil Quill Patriotic Cards by Rebecca Luminarias for We R Memory Keepers

I set up the file in my Silhouette software on my laptop, and printed it out using the Standard Foil Quill tip (aqua color).

Foil Quill Patriotic Cards by Rebecca Luminarias for We R Memory Keepers

I kept the cards clean and simple so that the metallic shine of the foil would take center stage, but I did add a few of my favorite accessories to dress them up a bit.  I matted each foiled panel on baby blue card bases with a layer of white lace sandwiched in between.

Foil Quill Patriotic Cards by Rebecca Luminarias for We R Memory Keepers

For the ‘let freedom ring’ cards, I left space on the left-hand side to clip on some trims.  Seam binding, white sequin trim, and rose gold metallic ribbon are attached with a mini clothespin.  On the map card, I left space on the top left for a white fabric bow.

The last details were some sequins for a little bit of extra shine. You can make so many things with the foil quill–have you tried it out yet?  It works on most electric cutting machines (even my old Cameo!) and you might just impress your friends with your foiling ability!  Happy summer to you–stay cool!

Father’s Day Party Decor

Hello everyone! It’s Eva on the blog today sharing a Father’s Day Decoration using some of my favorite We R tools

Father's Day Party Decor by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers

To create this décor I started by picking patterned paper. I love the vintage tones of the Sunny Days collection by Crate Paper so I choose some blues, a yellow and added a turquoise.

The first thing I did was create my garland. My used my Fringe and Score Board to score my paper every ½ inch. You can use your regular Score Board by I love the Fringe and Score because it can score 5 lines at a time. Super fast!

Fringe and Score Board by We R Memory Keepers

Next, I cut 6×6 inch squares, made accordions and bend them in the middle to create fans.

Father's Day Party Decor by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers

I glue some facing up and some facing down to create a garland.

Father's Day Party Decor by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers

Next, I worked on my glasses. I used my Foil Quill and the Heidi Swapp USB Drive to add the phrase “It’s your day” to vinyl.

If you want to add some inner lives to your design simply choose lines on the “Emboss” menu. You can edit spacing and angle on the lines. Before using the Foil Quill remember to hit the “Release Emboss” button.

Use some gold foil and the medium tip to foil your vinyl. Next, remove the Gold Foil and cut the edges with the blade. If you have a machine with just one tool be careful not to fully unload the vinyl or your cut may turn out in the wrong position.

Father's Day Party Decor by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers

Weed your vinyl and attach them to your glasses. The result is perfect!

I also created some flags for my paper straws. I used the Washi Chomper and that little tool perfectly cut 2 sheets of paper!

To decorate my muffins I made some bowties using my 1,2,3 Punch Board and some cupcake liners using the DIY Party Board. Easy and super cute!

Glue the bowties to some skewers and insert them to your muffins.

Once I was assembling everything I noticed I had some fans left so I added them to the table and it really help bringing everything together!

I also included a letter board with the “Dad, have a great day” phrase. I tried my best to stay in my color combination. That helps the décor feel cohesive and cute.

I hope you liked these decorations and that you can use them for your next party. Thanks for joining me to the end of this long post.

Foil Quill Spring Card

Hello We R Fans! Kimberly here and I know that you are as happy as I am that spring has finally sprung! Time for sunshine, green grass, and flowers! Nothing says spring to me more than bouquets of flowers! Today I have a spring water-colored card made with the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill. So easy to make, so fun to make, so wonderful to send to someone special!

Foil Quill Spring Card by Kimberly Crawford for We R Memory Keepers

I have a few current crafting obsessions, one, the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill, because I love the look of gold, and two, water color.

Foil Quill Spring Card by Kimberly Crawford for We R Memory Keepers

I picked up the new watercolor kit from Amy Tangerine and was looking for a project to use it on. And then I thought, why don’t I make an image with the Foil Quill on water color paper and color it in?! It worked perfectly!

Foil Quill Spring Card by Kimberly Crawford for We R Memory Keepers

Using a lovely floral image from Paige Evans digital drive, I created a card front. I began by creating a rectangle in the software of my digital die cutting machine, to the size of my card front. Then I laid out the images within that space. With the software, you can change the size of the design images easily, making them useable on a million different projects. The letters come separately, so I created a line for spacing and placed all my letters.

Design tip: Once you have the letters of your word lined up, select them all in the software, go to object, then group. Your word will now be joined. Making it easier to resize the word to fit your project.

Before sending the design to my digital die cutting machine to be foiled, I removed my rectangle and lines, so they would not be foiled with the rest of the design.

Foil Quill Spring Card by Kimberly Crawford for We R Memory Keepers

The water color paper I used was quite thick. I found that if I slowed the pen down to about half speed, the impression was much more solid. Also, note that watercolor paper often has two sides. One side is much more textured, the other is smoother. The smoother side will give you the best results.

Once the image was completed, I simply water-colored in the florals and the words.

Simple, sweet, elegant, and sure brighten someone’s mailbox. What images will you watercolor?

DIY Traveler’s Notebook Leather Cover with the Foil Quill

Hello We R fans! It’s Aly here to share a fun and easy DIY Traveler’s Notebook Cover with the amazing new Foil Quill pen and my Silhouette Cameo cutting machine. This summer our family is taking a long trip back east to visit some places where some of our ancestors lived to learn more about them. I’m so excited about this trip and I know it’s going to be so memorable, so I created this traveler’s notebook to record photos, stories and experiences along the way.

DIY Leather Traveler's Notebook Cover by Aly Dosdall featuring the We R Memory Keepers Foil QuillDIY Leather Traveler's Notebook Cover by Aly Dosdall featuring the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill

I love that the cover closure includes a pen so I’ll always be ready to write down thoughts or details during our trip. Take a look inside of the cover. The notebook insert is one of the Amy Tangerine Journal Studio inserts, which helped make this project come together quickly and easily.

The beautiful foil details on the leather cover make this traverler’s notebook really special. It’s the perfect place to record our special family vacation!

DIY Traveler's Notebook Leather Cover by Aly Dosdall featuring the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill

This leather cover is easy to make. Let me show you how I did it with my Silhouette Cameo!

I started with an 8 1/2 x 11 inch piece of Turquoise real leather I bought at my local Joann Store. Since I didn’t have an SVG file to cut the closure in my leather, I created a template with an 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheet of cardstock and traced it onto the leather. Then I cut out the parts of the closure with my craft knife. If you’re an experienced Cameo user, you could create your own cutting file. The opening for the closure is 1 inch squared, and the top of the slits on the opposite side are 1 inch apart so they fit perfectly inside to 1 inch square.

IMG_8494

IMG_8495

Next I added foil accents to my leather cover with the Foil Quill. The back side of real leather will leave fibers and debris on your cutting mat, so I recommend covering the back of your leather piece with a sheet of double sided adhesive. (You can also cover it with masking tape and use a spray adhesive on your mat.) Once I covered the back of the leather, I pealed off the backing and carefully placed it on my mat.

IMG_8499

I used my large bone folder as a brayer to smooth out any bubbles or lumps in the leather to ensure as smooth a foil transfer as possible.

We R Memory Keepers Large Bone Folder

The original Cameo is not made to handle thick materials like the newer models are, so you need to place your leather on the cutting mat so that the edges don’t go under the white rollers at each end of the roller bar. I placed my leather vertically in the center of my mat and that worked great.

IMG_8506IMG_8508

For this project I used the gorgeous rose gold foil. It comes in a 12×96 inch roll and 4×6 sheets. I like to use foil that contrasts nicely with the material I’m using so the foil stands out. I used artwork from the Paige Evans and Heidi Swapp Design Drives.

**It’s important to mention that practicing on scrap paper ahead of time to insure proper placement of foil on your material and your material on your mat will save you some frustration.**

Here are the settings I used on my Sihouette Cameo for foiling with the Rose Gold foil on real leather:

Foil Quill Pen Size: Standard
Action: Sketch
Material: Leatherette (modified)
Speed: 1
Force: 25

I let my Foil Quill pen heat up for 10 mintues to ensure it was plenty hot. Then I loaded up my mat, hit “send” and watched the magic happen! It turned out amazing!

IMG_8517

Clean up was easy after foiling. All I had to do is pull up my leather with the double sided adhesive sheet, and then pull that off the leather and toss it in the trash. No mess on my mat!

IMG_8518

Next I created the binding for my notebook insert. I used the Book Binding Guide to punch holes in the cover spine. Remove the top of the guide by unscrewing the knobs. Line up the top edge of your leather cover against the top of the guide, placing the center of the spine in the groove on the bottom of the guide. Punch the top two circled holes along the center column with the punch tool.

We R Memory Keepers Book Binding Guide

Then punch the last two circled holes at the bottom of the spine.

We R Memory Keepers Book Binding Guide

Thread some elastic cording from the inside of the cover to the outside through the top hole, then thread the elastic back into the inside of the cover through the second hole at the top. Thread the cording through the bottom hole and then back into the inside of the cover through the hole just above the bottom hole. Tie both ends in a knot at the bottom of your cover and trim the excess. Here’s what your finished binding will look like. You’ll slip your notebook insert under the longer of the two elastics inside the cover so that it rests in the middle page of your notebook.

To close the cover, simply pull the left flap over the notebook first, then the right one overlaps the left. Then pull the loop through the opening on the front, and insert your favorite pen!

If you’d like more room for notebook inserts, just use a longer piece of leather for the cover and add more elastic binding.

Baby Scrapbook Page with the Foil Quill

Hello everyone!  It’s Eva on the blog today showing you how to create a layout using the new Foil Quill.

Foil Quill Baby Scrapbook Layout by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers

The Foil Quill is truly a game changer and I love that I can use it for a variety of projects, including scrapbook layouts.

The Foil Quill has 3 tips: The fine one is perfect for journaling, the medium for fine lines in general and the thick tip for filling in shapes.  Because the tip is like a sketch pen if you want to fill your shapes you will need to work that on your die cutting machine software first.

Here I am using Silhouette Studio and wrote a word with a brush script font.

Foil Quill Baby Layout by Eva PIzarro 2 EN

Using the Emboss tool (marked with a red circle), fill the shape with concentric lines (marked with the blue circle).

Foil Quill Baby Layout by Eva PIzarro 3 EN

You can adjust the spacing of the lines, I used a 0.5 mm spacing for the thick tip of the Foil Quill.

Before sending your project make sure you hit the button “release emboss” otherwise you will not be able to send your design.

Foil Quill Baby Layout by Eva Pizarro 4 EN

For the journaling I used my fine Foil Quill tip and a sketch font called “Golden Rule Sketch” I highly recommend you use sketch fonts with small journaling otherwise your letters are going to turn out bulky.

Foil Quill Baby Layout by Eva Pizarro 5 EN

When I had everything ready I used the tape to hold my foil to the paper and hit send.

We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill

My journaling turned out great! The foil looks amazing and you can read it perfectly. I added a few numbers and embellished the bottom part of my layout.

Foil Quill Baby Scrapbook Layout by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers

On the bottom, I added a picture and also included the “First week” phrase that I had previously foiled and cut with my Cameo. I didn’t wanted to foil it directly on the paper so I could use some 3d dots and add a few die cuts underneath.

Foil Quill Baby Scrapbook Layout by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers

Finally, I foiled a few stars on vellum and added them to my layout. I wanted my stars fully foiled but I didn’t adjust the spacing right, that’s why you can see the lines. I was going to do them again but thought they were pretty that way and left them!

Foil Quill Baby Scrapbook Layout by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers

A few more starts on the top part of the layout and I was done!

Foil Quill Baby Scrapbook Layout by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers

I love how my layout turned out! The silver foil looks perfect on blue cardstock and it is amazing the detail you can get with the fine tip.

Do you have a Foil Quill? If not you should get one! You can use it for so many things and even the simplest card looks great with foil!

Thanks for joining me and have a great day!

Foil Quill Baby Album

I was totally excited when I first tried Foil Quill and was surprised at how easy it was to use. My Silhouette Cameo is 5 years old and it worked great.

I decorated the transparent book cover with the Foil Quill. First I tried different materials with the Foil Quill and then I decided on an acetate cover. My absolute favorite for mini albums.Foil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory KeepersFoil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory KeepersFoil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory KeepersFoil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory Keepers
I used the Bold Tip Pen for all motifs. I think that with the thicker lines the motifs are best shown on the foil and the wood.Foil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory KeepersThe mini album has the size 4 x 4 inches. First I cut the papers from Heidi Swapps new collection “Color Fresh” 4 x 12 inch and then folded them two times. After that I folded it to a leporello, so that you can look at it from both sides.Foil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory KeepersOn the computer I created the motifs and the title for the book cover.  For this I used motifs and the title from Foil Quill USB Art – Icons and Words.  There are many beautiful motifs for babies and children.

You have to make sure that it fits exactly to the dimensions of the book cover. As you can see, I also wrote the name of the baby on the spine of the book. These I have from Foil Quill USB Art – Amy Tangerine. I think it’s great. You can even personalize your project or write your own words.Foil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory KeepersFirst I created the cover and the spine with the pink foil sheet (from the package “Flamingo”). Therefore I removed the motif from the backside of the book. After the motives were written with the Foil Quill, I inserted the rainbows in the program again (->over edit – undo).  Afterwards with the foil sheet rose gold (from the package “Shining Starling”) the back of the book cover with the foil Quill provided.

Finally folded and finished was the transparent book cover!Foil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory KeepersFoil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory Keepers

Have fun watching the creation of the mini album:

In addition to the mini album I created a small transparent pocket. Because I wanted to have the motif in the middle of the bag, I first created a template from Cardstock. For this I used the Pocket Maker Punchboard.Foil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory KeepersI cut the acetate into the desired size and placed it on the pattern. Now use a dry erase marker to sketch the area for the motif. Then place the foil precisely on the foil. Foil Quill Photo Frame

Hello We R Fans! Kimberly here to share a project with the absolutely incredible new We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill. Once again, We R Memory Keepers has hit it out of the park with this innovative tool! The Foil Quill turns your digital die cutting machine into a foiling machine. Yes! The beautiful look of a foil finish in minutes! It gets better. The Foil Quill is compatible with the leading digital die cutting machines on the market!

Foil Quill Photo Frame by Kimberly Crawford for We R Memory Keepers

Wedding photos are some of our most-cherished pictures and they need to be showcased. I created this photo frame with black cardstock and the Foil Quill, along with Foil Quill Gold Foil. Simple products that have been transformed into something elegant and stunning. While I created this frame with our wedding photos, I will be making this project as a wedding gift for couples in the future.

Foil Quill Photo Frame by Kimberly Crawford for We R Memory Keepers

Foil Quill Photo Frame by Kimberly Crawford for We R Memory Keepers

To begin with, I used an SVG file from the Foil Quill Kelly Creates digital drive. There are several different thumb drives available for purchase from your favorite American Crafts designers. The drives are loaded with beautiful images, words, letters, and more! I chose this beautiful floral image and put the image into my digital die cutting machine’s software. After resizing the image and positioning it where I wanted it to be foiled on my cardstock, the design is ready to be sent to the machine.

Foil Quill Photo Frame by Kimberly Crawford for We R Memory Keepers

To prepare my paper for foiling, I placed my cardstock on the standard mat for my digital die cutting machine. Then I put the foil over the cardstock, only in the places where I know the design will be foiled. The foil needs to be held in place. The Foil Quill comes with a roll of washi tape to help with that. I would recommend using the tape liberally, especially with more intricate designs such as this. The foil also needs to be secured with as few wrinkles as possible, again, the washi tape helps with that.

Foil Quill Photo Frame by Kimberly Crawford for We R Memory Keepers

The key to all this gorgeousness is the Foil Quill pen. Using your digital die cutting machine’s pen option, the Foil Quill becomes the magical tool you see creating gorgeous projects. The kit comes with 3 different sized pens. The medium nib (teal) will be the one you will use the most often. Within the kit are several adaptors, when added to the pens, adjusts to your specific digital die cutting machine’s dimensions. Amazing, right?

While you are preparing your image and paper, be sure to plug your Foil Quill pen tool into a USB port. The Foil Quill pens need to heat up before sketching on your cardstock. I found that 5-10 minutes of warm up time was adequate.

Once the Foil Quill is heated, the fun could start! I sent my file and watched the magic begin. With in a few minutes, I had a stunning foiled design on my cardstock. Look at the shine!

Foil Quill Photo Frame by Kimberly Crawford for We R Memory Keepers

I also foiled a frame design from Paige Evans and cut it out. Inside that frame, I added our wedding photo. Twenty years ago, wow we were young. I cannot wait to put this on a wall in our house!

What wedding photo do you need to take out of an album and frame beautifully with the Foil Quill?
