Father’s Day Mini Album

I made a mini album for Father’s Day. In Germany we already celebrated this day two weeks ago. My daughter painted small pictures and wrote letters for her dad. These should come into the album.

So I wanted to integrate little pockets into the album. All the little letters should come into these. This gave me the idea to do the whole album with the Pocket Maker Punchboard. Also the book cover should be a pocket.

We R Memory Keepers Pocket Maker Punch Board

The inner part consists of 6 pockets. I created them all with the Pocket Maker Punchboard. This was very quick and easy. For one pocket I used a painted picture of my daughter. Also a photo is suitable well for a bag. Here you have to be careful that the motive is not too big. So that it is not cut off during folding.

We R Memory Keepers Pocket Maker Punch Board

Please note that the bottom side of the pockets is not glued. This must be open so that the pockets can be sewn to the spine of the book.

Mini Clear Cut Circle Punch by We R Memory Keeprs

If you still want to edit the pockets with the Mini Clear Cut Punch or the Word Punch Board, do so before the bags are bound into the album.

Word Punch Board by We R Memory Keepers

When you’ve finished the bags, the book cover will be made. I have made this bag longer than the size shown in the table. I wrote the measurement on the photo. I hope you can see it.

Pocket Maker Punch board by We R Memory Keepers

The pocket is narrow and long. The spine is 1.25 inch wide. So that the 6 pockets have enough space.

Trim and Score Board by We R Memory Keepers

Maybe you can see it on the photo. I folded the bag at 3 inches and at 1 ¾ inch.

Trim and Score Board by We R Memory Keepers

That’s what your book cover looks like. Now glue the back pocket to the book cover.

Father´s Day by Steffi Ried Tutorial 8

Then the remaining pockets are attached to the spine of the book with the Book Binding Guide. I have sketched the inside of the spine. Whereby on my picture a dot is missing.

I made this only for orientation. The distance can vary afterwards. Because there are 5 pockets, which are sewn in.

Father´s Day by Steffi Ried Tutorial 9

Now the lower fold is fastened from the pocket into the ruler. Therefore the flap must be open. I have attached the bag to the spine of the book with clamps. So that it does not shift. Now prick the holes for the normal book binding with the needle.

Father´s Day by Steffi Ried Tutorial 10

That’s what it looks like on the spine of the book.

If the bag is attached to the spine of the book, the bottom side of the bag can be glued.

DIY Traveler’s Notebook Leather Cover with the Foil Quill

Hello We R fans! It’s Aly here to share a fun and easy DIY Traveler’s Notebook Cover with the amazing new Foil Quill pen and my Silhouette Cameo cutting machine. This summer our family is taking a long trip back east to visit some places where some of our ancestors lived to learn more about them. I’m so excited about this trip and I know it’s going to be so memorable, so I created this traveler’s notebook to record photos, stories and experiences along the way.

I love that the cover closure includes a pen so I’ll always be ready to write down thoughts or details during our trip. Take a look inside of the cover. The notebook insert is one of the Amy Tangerine Journal Studio inserts, which helped make this project come together quickly and easily.

The beautiful foil details on the leather cover make this traverler’s notebook really special. It’s the perfect place to record our special family vacation!

DIY Traveler's Notebook Leather Cover by Aly Dosdall featuring the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill

This leather cover is easy to make. Let me show you how I did it with my Silhouette Cameo!

I started with an 8 1/2 x 11 inch piece of Turquoise real leather I bought at my local Joann Store. Since I didn’t have an SVG file to cut the closure in my leather, I created a template with an 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheet of cardstock and traced it onto the leather. Then I cut out the parts of the closure with my craft knife. If you’re an experienced Cameo user, you could create your own cutting file. The opening for the closure is 1 inch squared, and the top of the slits on the opposite side are 1 inch apart so they fit perfectly inside to 1 inch square.

IMG_8494

IMG_8495

Next I added foil accents to my leather cover with the Foil Quill. The back side of real leather will leave fibers and debris on your cutting mat, so I recommend covering the back of your leather piece with a sheet of double sided adhesive. (You can also cover it with masking tape and use a spray adhesive on your mat.) Once I covered the back of the leather, I pealed off the backing and carefully placed it on my mat.

IMG_8499

I used my large bone folder as a brayer to smooth out any bubbles or lumps in the leather to ensure as smooth a foil transfer as possible.

We R Memory Keepers Large Bone Folder

The original Cameo is not made to handle thick materials like the newer models are, so you need to place your leather on the cutting mat so that the edges don’t go under the white rollers at each end of the roller bar. I placed my leather vertically in the center of my mat and that worked great.

IMG_8506IMG_8508

For this project I used the gorgeous rose gold foil. It comes in a 12×96 inch roll and 4×6 sheets. I like to use foil that contrasts nicely with the material I’m using so the foil stands out. I used artwork from the Paige Evans and Heidi Swapp Design Drives.

**It’s important to mention that practicing on scrap paper ahead of time to insure proper placement of foil on your material and your material on your mat will save you some frustration.**

Here are the settings I used on my Sihouette Cameo for foiling with the Rose Gold foil on real leather:

Foil Quill Pen Size: Standard
Action: Sketch
Material: Leatherette (modified)
Speed: 1
Force: 25

I let my Foil Quill pen heat up for 10 mintues to ensure it was plenty hot. Then I loaded up my mat, hit “send” and watched the magic happen! It turned out amazing!

IMG_8517

Clean up was easy after foiling. All I had to do is pull up my leather with the double sided adhesive sheet, and then pull that off the leather and toss it in the trash. No mess on my mat!

IMG_8518

Next I created the binding for my notebook insert. I used the Book Binding Guide to punch holes in the cover spine. Remove the top of the guide by unscrewing the knobs. Line up the top edge of your leather cover against the top of the guide, placing the center of the spine in the groove on the bottom of the guide. Punch the top two circled holes along the center column with the punch tool.

We R Memory Keepers Book Binding Guide

Then punch the last two circled holes at the bottom of the spine.

We R Memory Keepers Book Binding Guide

Thread some elastic cording from the inside of the cover to the outside through the top hole, then thread the elastic back into the inside of the cover through the second hole at the top. Thread the cording through the bottom hole and then back into the inside of the cover through the hole just above the bottom hole. Tie both ends in a knot at the bottom of your cover and trim the excess. Here’s what your finished binding will look like. You’ll slip your notebook insert under the longer of the two elastics inside the cover so that it rests in the middle page of your notebook.

To close the cover, simply pull the left flap over the notebook first, then the right one overlaps the left. Then pull the loop through the opening on the front, and insert your favorite pen!

If you’d like more room for notebook inserts, just use a longer piece of leather for the cover and add more elastic binding.

Foil Quill Baby Album

I was totally excited when I first tried Foil Quill and was surprised at how easy it was to use. My Silhouette Cameo is 5 years old and it worked great.

Foil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory Keepers

Foil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory KeepersI’ll show you how I created a Baby mini album with a transparent cover.  This is a nice gift idea for the birth. The parents can fill it with photos. Below you will also find a short video.

I decorated the transparent book cover with the Foil Quill. First I tried different materials with the Foil Quill and then I decided on an acetate cover. My absolute favorite for mini albums.Foil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory KeepersFoil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory KeepersFoil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory KeepersFoil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory Keepers
I used the Bold Tip Pen for all motifs. I think that with the thicker lines the motifs are best shown on the foil and the wood.Foil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory KeepersThe mini album has the size 4 x 4 inches. First I cut the papers from Heidi Swapps new collection “Color Fresh” 4 x 12 inch and then folded them two times. After that I folded it to a leporello, so that you can look at it from both sides.Foil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory KeepersOn the computer I created the motifs and the title for the book cover.  For this I used motifs and the title from Foil Quill USB Art – Icons and Words.  There are many beautiful motifs for babies and children.

You have to make sure that it fits exactly to the dimensions of the book cover. As you can see, I also wrote the name of the baby on the spine of the book. These I have from Foil Quill USB Art – Amy Tangerine. I think it’s great. You can even personalize your project or write your own words.Foil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory KeepersFirst I created the cover and the spine with the pink foil sheet (from the package “Flamingo”). Therefore I removed the motif from the backside of the book. After the motives were written with the Foil Quill, I inserted the rainbows in the program again (->over edit – undo).  Afterwards with the foil sheet rose gold (from the package “Shining Starling”) the back of the book cover with the foil Quill provided.

Finally folded and finished was the transparent book cover!Foil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory KeepersFoil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory Keepers

Have fun watching the creation of the mini album:

In addition to the mini album I created a small transparent pocket. Because I wanted to have the motif in the middle of the bag, I first created a template from Cardstock. For this I used the Pocket Maker Punchboard.Foil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory KeepersI cut the acetate into the desired size and placed it on the pattern. Now use a dry erase marker to sketch the area for the motif. Then place the foil precisely on the foil. Using the inches on the mat you can place your foil exactlyFoil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory KeepersAfter the motif has been created on the foil, remove the sketched lines with a cloth. Cut the foil with the Pocket Maker Punchboard and fold it – the sweet, transparent pocket is ready!Foil Quill Acetate Baby Album by Steffi Ried for We R Memory KeepersI also have a short video for you:

IMG_0649I hope you enjoyed my contribution. There are so many possibilities with the Foil Quill. I am very enthusiastic and will use it often. It was a lot of fun. See you next time!

Washi Tape Mini Album

Hello everyone!  It’s Eva here showing you how to use the Washi Tape Runner and the Pocket Punch Board to create an easy mini album.

Washi Tape Mini Album by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers

The new Washi Tape Runner is the perfect tool for all your washi tapes; you can use different roll widths and the tool has also a retractable blade for easy cutting. I decided to use my washi tape to bind my mini album, adding texture and color to my project.

The first thing I did was using my Pocket Punch Board to create the pages of my album.

We R Memory Keepers Pocket Punch Board

This tool is super easy to use and you can create pockets with or without flaps. It even has a notch punch on top with guides so you can center your notch every time!

We R Memory Keepers Pocket Punch Board

Next, I used my Washi tape runner and some lovely washi tapes from the Succulent set to bind my pages.

I bind all of my pages first and then run my mini album through my Stitch Happy to secure the pages.

Inside the mini album I used washi tape in different ways, for example: I used it to hold my pictures, the thin washi tape is perfect for that because it doesn’t distract you from the picture.

Inside the pockets you can add pictures, tags, journaling or memorabilia!

I also used my washi tape to create a flap with my photo. You can lift the photograph and read the journaling underneath. This is a great way to add more pictures too!

You can also use your washi tape to embellish; the designs are super cute and they are perfect for everyday projects, besides the Washi Tape Roller leaves a beautiful cut and it is easy to cut your washi exactly were you want.

Finally, I used my washi tape to add a big picture to my mini album. I simply cut it in two and held the two pieces together with some washi tape.

The last page is very simply and I only used the washi tape to hold that cute picture of my little boy and me.

Washi tape is so versatile and I am sure you have tons in a basket waiting to be used! I am sure that with the new Washi Tape Runner you are going to be using it so much more!

Christmas Coptic Book

Hello everyone! It’s Eva Pizarro on the blog today bringing you a Christmas Coptic Book made with the Book Binding Guide.

Christmas Coptic Book by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Book Binding Guide

The Bookbinding Guide has everything you need to create Coptic, Japanese and Saddle bindings and create stunning Mini Books in minutes! I have been wanting to create a Coptic Book and I thought it would be fun to create one for Christmas and leave everything ready for the busiest days of the year.

To create the Christmas Coptic Book wrap chipboard covers with your favorite patterned papers, I am using the lovely Merry Days collection by Crate Paper that has wonderful vintage feeling.

Christmas Coptic Book by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Book Binding Guide

Cut several pages and group them 3 at a time. Once you fold them in half you will notice that the edges are not even. Use your Mini Magnetic Mat and your Craft Knife to cut the excess.

Christmas Coptic Book by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Book Binding GuideChristmas Coptic Book by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Book Binding Guide

Open the Book Binding Guide and place the pages on the left side of the tool. The tool has a natural inclination so you can place the pages in the middle and the holes will be perfectly aligned with the creasing line.  Use the needle to punch holes, I like to mark the holes I am using so I don’t get confused.

Christmas Coptic Book by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Book Binding GuideChristmas Coptic Book by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Book Binding Guide

Untwist the circles on the left side and put them on the right side of the tool. You will also need to flip the hole guide to use it on the covers because on other side the hole guide is completely flat.

Christmas Coptic Book by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Book Binding Guide

Use a coptic binding to keep everything together. You can search video tutorial but it is really easy and all you have to do is repeat the same steps over and over. To start, thread your curved needle with waxed thread. Make a little knot and go from the inside to the outside of the first group of papers.

Tie the back cover by passing the needle from the outside to the inside of the cover and making a knot with the curved needle.

Christmas Coptic Book by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Book Binding GuideChristmas Coptic Book by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Book Binding Guide

Go inside the paper group from the same hole and exit trough the next hole.

Christmas Coptic Book by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Book Binding GuideChristmas Coptic Book by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Book Binding Guide

Repeat the same steps until the cover is completely attached to the first group of papers. Now, instead of going inside the papers from the same exit hole, add another group of papers and go inside the second group.

Christmas Coptic Book by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Book Binding Guide

The steps are absolutely the same here, the only difference will be that you’ll need to loop around the previous paper outer stitch before making that final move into the interior. This will help to hold everything together.

Christmas Coptic Book by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Book Binding Guide

On this step you can ad beads, little embellishments, chipboard shapes, sequins, etc. just make sure you tighten your thread after adding every embellishment.

Christmas Coptic Book by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Book Binding Guide

Once you have attached the front cover make a knot inside the last group of papers and cut the thread.

Christmas Coptic Book by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Book Binding Guide

Embellish your mini book with chipboard shapes, stickers and die cuts. Make sure you don’t add too many 3d embellishments otherwise you won’t be able to close the book!

Christmas Coptic Book by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Book Binding Guide

Another tip I have is that you don’t add too many embellishments to the binding because the stitching looks very nice!

Christmas Coptic Book by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Book Binding Guide

These books are really cute and I think they are perfect for this busy holiday season! Lots of pages to record the best month of the year! Now with the Book Binding Guide you can have everything you need to create them an easily align everything without the hassle of measuring and marking every page.

Yearly Mini Envelope Journal

Hello We R friends! Laura here today showing you how to create a fun yearly mini envelope journal using the word punch board, mini score board, tab punch board, and square punch board. The word punch board is the perfect way to add titles and words to all your paper projects. And you can use both the punched-out strip and the punched-out letters in your projects.

Yearly Mini Envelope Journal by Laura Silva for We R Memory Keepers

I started by creating 12 mini envelopes. I used the mini score board to create envelopes that would fit a 3 ¼” x 3 ¼” paper. I trimmed my paper to 6” x 6” using the Trim & Score Board. Then, using the score guide, I scored the four lines for the envelope. You could also use the envelope punch board or mini envelope punch board for this step.

Make mini envelopes with the Mini Score Board and the 3 Way Corner Punch by We R Memory Keepers

Cut the V shape notches out of the envelope and use the 3-way corner punch to round the top and bottom corners of the envelope. Then, use adhesive to assemble the envelopes.

Yearly Mini Envelope Journal by Laura Silva for We R Memory Keepers

Fold the top of the envelope on the score line and place adhesive on the outside of the flap. Attach it to the back side of the envelope before it. Repeat these steps for all the rest of the envelopes.

Yearly Mini Envelope Journal by Laura Silva for We R Memory Keepers

To create a cover for the mini envelope journal, I trimmed one of the sentiment cards from the cardstock stack to the same size as the envelopes. I attached it to the front using the top flap of the first envelope.

On the inside cover I created a title page with a small patterned cardstock square and the words “MY YEAR” punched out using the word punch board.

Yearly Mini Envelope Journal by Laura Silva for We R Memory Keepers

Since I wanted this to be a yearly journal, I added the months to each envelope using strips of coordinating paper and the word punch board. Since the album is so small I only did the first three letters of each month.

Yearly Mini Envelope Journal by Laura Silva for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Word Punch Board

I wanted to be able to add a picture or journaling inside each envelope. I used the square punch board to quickly cut out twelve 3” x 3” squares from white cardstock.

Square Punch Board by We R Memory Keepers

I then used the tab punch board to create tabs to easily be able to pull out the card from the envelope. Use the mini score board to score your paper scrap at 1”. Fold the paper in half and then line up the edge with the side tab guide placed. Flip the paper over, line up the edge to the small tab guide and punch again. Use the top trimmer to perfectly trim the tab.

Create different sizes and styles of tabs with the Tab Punch Board by We R Memory Keepers

I dumped out all the little letters from the word punch board and added the coordinating month letters to each tab. The Quickstik Tool makes it easy to pick up the little letters. Once the letters were glued on, I attached the tabs to each of the white cardstock squares.

Yearly Mini Envelope Journal by Laura Silva for We R Memory Keepers featuring the Word Punch BoardYearly Mini Envelope Journal by Laura Silva for We R Memory Keepers

I think it will be fun to add little mementos inside the envelopes like movie tickets, concert stubs, or even receipts to remind us of our fun adventures throughout the year. And I can add journaling or pictures to the small cardstock squares in each envelope.

Washi Tape Mini Album

Hello, We R friends. Enza here, and today I am sharing a mini album that I created with lots of washi tape and a few of my favorite tools: the Stitch Happy Sewing Machine, the Tag Punch Board, and the Frame Punch Board. I love making mini albums, and this one was especially fun. I went with an accordion style design, for which I used a washi tape binding technique that is really easy to make.

Washi Tape Mini Album by Enza Gudor for We R Memory Keepers

I started by cutting the panels; mine measure 5.5”x3.75”. I laid them side by side, making sure to leave about 1/8” in between, and secured the edges with a strip of washi tape. I repeated this step for all the pages, front and back; I then used my Stitch Happy to sew the washi strips in place. This is a necessary step in my opinion, as washi tape tends to detach from the paper overtime. I also love the texture that stitching brings to the pages!

Washi Tape Mini Album by Enza Gudor for We R Memory Keepers

Washi Tape Mini Album by Enza Gudor for We R Memory Keepers

Once the accordion piece was finished, I created some frames to use as embellishments using the Frame Punch Board. This tool is a must have, and is perfect for any memory keeping project or fun décor pieces. Since I wanted to use more washi, I trimmed white cardstock to the desired size and covered the edges with washi tape before punching out the shape.

Frame Punch Board by We R Memory Keepers

You can see how I have used the frames in the pictures below.

Next, the tags. The pages of the album are only adhered on three sides, becoming pockets that are perfect for storing hidden journaling or memorabilia. I used the Tag Punch Board to create three tags, on which I typed a bit about our lovely trip. I left part of the tags showing, and added some bakers twine so to create an interactive element and suggest pulling the tags to reveal the little surprise.

Here are a few more photos of the mini. I like to include fun and unique embellishments whenever possible, such as vellum pockets filled with sequins and small ephemera pieces, shaker pockets, tassels, paper clips.

Beach Themed Mini Album

Hello everyone!  It’s Eva on the blog today sharing an easy Summer Mini Album made with some of my favorite We R tools.

Beach Themed Mini Album by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers

This mini album is small but you can fit many pictures because it has pockets on all the pages. I used the “My Bright Life” collection from Pebbles Inc that it is perfect for everyday pages and mini albums.

Tab Punch Board Mini Album

Hey there We R Memory Keepers friends and fans, Becki here, to share a mini album that I created with the Tab Punch Board and a few other We R Memory Keepers tools. I LOVE making mini albums, especially mini albums from scratch. There are a few tools that are a must have for creating mini albums. I have to have the trim and score board, the planner punch board, the Stitch Happy sewing machine, and the tab punch board. Who doesn’t love cute tabs in their mini albums?

Tab Punch Board mini album _Currently by Becki Adams_MAIN PHOTO

This is a smaller mini album with only 5 pages (including the covers). The album is titled “currently…” it’s an album showcasing each person in our family and their current interests. I created one page for each of our kids and then my husband and I share the last page. I started by cutting all of the pages from patterned paper to 6 inches wide and seven inches tall. When I had all the pages of the album cut I punched holes in each page. The planner punch board is awesome for punching holes into pages for mini albums because I can adjust the punch board and punch all of the pages and they’ll all be exactly the same.

Planner Punch Board by We R Memory Keepers

Because I wanted the tabs on the pages to be double sided and have a different pattern than the actual pages, I cut a two-inch strip of patterned paper and folded it in half before using the tab punch board. This punch board is so versatile. I love that I can create small, medium, or large tabs with the same tool! After I made the tabs, I stitched them on the edge of the pages. By stitching them in place, you’re guaranteed that the tabs will stay in place!

After the tabs were stitched in place, I typed each family members name with my typecast typewriter on white cardstock. Then, I cut the names into small strips and adhered them to the corresponding tabs.

Here’s what the inside of the album looks like. I love the tabs, the stitching, and of course, the typed journaling.

Birthday Mini Album

Hey there, We R fans, Laura here today sharing a fun project to make with or for your child to celebrate his/her birthday – a birthday mini album! The album itself spells out “birthday” and then each page has a fun way to record birthday memories with a picture or journaling, or both! With the basics in place, it would also make a great gift idea for a special child in your life.

Start by using the mini alphabet punch board to create all the letters in the word “birthday”. I choose different colored cardstock and glitter cardstock to make them in rainbow order. This is a great way to use up small leftover scraps as the paper only needs to be one and a half inch by two and a half inches.

Cut out patterned cardstock rectangles using the trim and score board. Each rectangle will be 3 ½ inches tall. The first rectangle will be only 2 inches wide. Make each additional rectangle 1 ½ inches bigger than the one before.

Note: The final rectangle will only be 12 inches wide (rather than 12 ½”) unless you have longer cardstock you can use. Use the Crop-A-Dile to punch holes at the left side of the mini album. Then attach all the pages together using binder rings.

Decorate and embellish all the pages. I used a mix of Pebbles Happy Hooray ephemera, patterned paper scraps from the rectangles I cut out, washi tape, and plain white cardstock. There is plenty of room to add journaling and/or small photos.

I rounded some of the corners of the patterned cardstock and white cardstock to match the ephemera throughout the album using the 3-way corner chomper.

I wanted there to be dimension to the album, so for some of the embellishments I attached them to the page using adhesive dots rather than regular double-sided adhesive.

I love that there are so many great coordinating paper and embellishment options. It makes it so easy to create a fabulous project.

To cover the binder rings, I used ribbon and twine that coordinated with the birthday letters and tied them on. For the twine I used two strands for each color.

This mini album is the perfect way to celebrate and commemorate your child’s birthday. They will love adding special memories from their special day.
