Peekaboo Gift Boxes with the Mini Clear Cut Punches

Hi there!  It’s Rebecca today and I’m sharing a new favorite way to add extra fun to gift wrapped packages.  WRMK introduced some new Clear Cut Punches a couple months ago, which offer the ease of a shaped punch with the added ability to punch anywhere on your paper.  I took full advantage of this benefit to create my peekaboo gift boxes.

I started with the fixings for making some boxes with 12×12 scrapbook papers by DCWV’s Easy Peasy stack.  I made enough to create three 4″ x 4″ x 4″ boxes with the 1-2-3 Punchboard.  After following the directions, I scored the proper lines, but didn’t assemble them yet, as I thought it would be easier to use the Clear Cut Punches on flat paper.

I chose 1″ circles and 1″ stars for the little peekaboo windows and punched the shapes into what would become the sides of the boxes.  Sandwich your paper between the top and bottom of the punches and align the “UP” punch top (clear aqua plastic circle that goes with the white top) and the arrow that points up on the aqua base of the punch.  This allows for the magnets in the punches to set together and you get a clean punch with ease.  I punched a few shapes per side.

On two of the boxes, I used decorative paper to cover each block on the inside.  This offers a contrasting design inside each punched window.  It also stabilizes the box frame and makes it a little thicker and sturdier.  Be mindful of where you place your adhesive, though, being cautious around the punched-out shapes.  You don’t want unsightly adhesive showing through!

For the third box, I tried something extra fun, filling some flat 3 1/4″ square acetate bags with gold sequins.  You can use regular acetate sheets if you’d rather.  I placed each sequin pack over the punched-out windows, and used clear tape to adhere them, again being careful so it isn’t seen through any of the windows.  I then backed each bag with a peach-colored patterned paper from Amy Tangerine.

The sequins in this extra-special gift box shake when the box shakes!  You can try using colored paper trimmings for confetti, of even glitter instead of sequins.  I topped the box with a trio of yarn pom poms and some peach twine.

For my other packages, I used green grosgrain ribbon and made bows with the 1-2-3 Punchboard.  I made them in size Large and in the same papers that are seen through the punched windows.

You can do all kinds of fun things with the Clear-Cut punches, from scrapbooking to cardmaking to gift wrapping!  I hope you’ll give these festive boxes a try–I can’t wait to give these away!

DIY Patriotic Decor with the Foil Quill

Hey there We R friends, it’s Aly here again! Happy Wednesday, and welcome to the blog. Tomorrow is Independence Day for us here in the U.S., and I’ve got a festive patriotic DIY decor idea to share with you featuring the Foil Quill.

The focal point of my patriotic decor is this vinyl sign that I made with the Foil Quill and the Crate Paper Magnet Studio 10×14 frame.

The design file comes from the We R Holiday USB Drive, which has 200 SVG files perfect for cutting or foiling for any holiday during the year.

I started by opening the design in my software and resizing it to fit my frame. Then I created a simple circle pattern to foil over the vinyl before cutting it out. Watch the video below to see how I was able to foil and cut this project with my Silhouette Cameo 3.

Once I completed my foiled vinyl design and added it to my frame, I wanted to create a few more DIY decor items to accompany it. First, I used the Tassel Loom to make what I call a Waterfall Tassel Garland. I simply made my 6 inch tassels, and then used a yarn needle to string them all together and hang them.

Next, I made a couple of mini garlands with some gold glitter paper and a gold mylar sheet. I used my circle and star Mini Clear Cut Punches (1 inch) to make them.

I love using them to punch out lots of shapes from my paper scraps because I can move them anywhere on my paper to punch, which means I can use EVERY INCH of my paper scraps. So satisfying, right?!?

I threw in a flag and a plant decorated with blue striped washi tape to complete my patriotic vignette, and I love how it turned out!

Father’s Day Mini Album

I made a mini album for Father’s Day. In Germany we already celebrated this day two weeks ago. My daughter painted small pictures and wrote letters for her dad. These should come into the album.

So I wanted to integrate little pockets into the album. All the little letters should come into these. This gave me the idea to do the whole album with the Pocket Maker Punchboard. Also the book cover should be a pocket.

We R Memory Keepers Pocket Maker Punch Board

The inner part consists of 6 pockets. I created them all with the Pocket Maker Punchboard. This was very quick and easy. For one pocket I used a painted picture of my daughter. Also a photo is suitable well for a bag. Here you have to be careful that the motive is not too big. So that it is not cut off during folding.

Please note that the bottom side of the pockets is not glued. This must be open so that the pockets can be sewn to the spine of the book.

If you still want to edit the pockets with the Mini Clear Cut Punch or the Word Punch Board, do so before the bags are bound into the album.

When you’ve finished the bags, the book cover will be made. I have made this bag longer than the size shown in the table. I wrote the measurement on the photo. I hope you can see it.

The pocket is narrow and long. The spine is 1.25 inch wide. So that the 6 pockets have enough space.

Trim and Score Board by We R Memory Keepers

Maybe you can see it on the photo. I folded the bag at 3 inches and at 1 ¾ inch.

That’s what your book cover looks like. Now glue the back pocket to the book cover.

Then the remaining pockets are attached to the spine of the book with the Book Binding Guide. I have sketched the inside of the spine. Whereby on my picture a dot is missing.

I made this only for orientation. The distance can vary afterwards. Because there are 5 pockets, which are sewn in.

Now the lower fold is fastened from the pocket into the ruler. Therefore the flap must be open. I have attached the bag to the spine of the book with clamps. So that it does not shift. Now prick the holes for the normal book binding with the needle.

If the bag is attached to the spine of the book, the bottom side of the bag can be glued.

Here is a short video and photos from the finished album.

Mother’s Day Heart Art Gift

Hey there We R fans, Laura here today! Mother’s Day is right around the corner and I don’t think there is any better way to show your mom you love her than making a handmade gift! Today I am going to teach you how to create a beautiful heart art piece using some of my favorite We R tools.

Mother's Day Heart Art Gift Idea by Laura Silva for We R Memory Keepers

Start by cutting out the letters MOM using the alphabet punch board. I used the second method to cut the M where you start with a larger piece of cardstock rather than gluing two pieces together.

We R Memory Keepers Alphabet Punch Board

Next, cut out lots of mini hearts using the mini heart clear-cut punch. I used the fun Easy Peasy paper stack from DCWV. It has bright, fresh colors and the paper is double-sided.

I cut out hearts in a rainbow of colors.

We R Memory Keepers Mini Clear Cut Punches

Use your hot glue gun to attach the hearts in any pattern you like. I followed the rainbow theme by starting with pinks and reds at the top and ended with greens and teals at the bottom. Before attaching your hearts fold them in half so they look more three dimensional on the letters.

Since the hearts stick out a bit, you can see the backside of the paper from certain angles. You can change up the look by using a paper stack where the pattern on the cardstock is only one sided and the backs are white instead of another pattern.

Attach your hearts on all three letters.

Cut a piece of designer poster board that is 7” tall by 16” wide, using your supreme ruler, craft knife, and cutting mat.

Cut three pieces of chipboard with your utility knife – two pieces that are 7” tall by 4” wide and one piece that is 7” tall by 8” wide. This will allow you to create a tri-fold on your poster board to set the art on a table.

If you want to simply hang the artwork you can cut one large piece of chipboard to fit along the backside. If you plan to hang the artwork you could leave the poster board without a chipboard backing, but you would need a stiffer poster board design than the one I used.

Use hot glue to adhere the letters to the poster board. I added one additional red heart above the letter O on the artwork.

Mom will be sure to love this gift and you can create any color combination to match your mom’s décor at home.
