DIY Patriotic Decor with the Foil Quill

Hey there We R friends, it’s Aly here again! Happy Wednesday, and welcome to the blog. Tomorrow is Independence Day for us here in the U.S., and I’ve got a festive patriotic DIY decor idea to share with you featuring the Foil Quill.

The focal point of my patriotic decor is this vinyl sign that I made with the Foil Quill and the Crate Paper Magnet Studio 10×14 frame.

The design file comes from the We R Holiday USB Drive, which has 200 SVG files perfect for cutting or foiling for any holiday during the year.

I started by opening the design in my software and resizing it to fit my frame. Then I created a simple circle pattern to foil over the vinyl before cutting it out. Watch the video below to see how I was able to foil and cut this project with my Silhouette Cameo 3.

Once I completed my foiled vinyl design and added it to my frame, I wanted to create a few more DIY decor items to accompany it. First, I used the Tassel Loom to make what I call a Waterfall Tassel Garland. I simply made my 6 inch tassels, and then used a yarn needle to string them all together and hang them.

Next, I made a couple of mini garlands with some gold glitter paper and a gold mylar sheet. I used my circle and star Mini Clear Cut Punches (1 inch) to make them.

I love using them to punch out lots of shapes from my paper scraps because I can move them anywhere on my paper to punch, which means I can use EVERY INCH of my paper scraps. So satisfying, right?!?

I threw in a flag and a plant decorated with blue striped washi tape to complete my patriotic vignette, and I love how it turned out!

Foil Quill Patriotic Scrapbook Page

Hello, We R friends! Enza here, and today I’m sharing a patriotic layout featuring the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill. I’m amazed by the beautiful results I get every single time; this foiling system is easy to use and, with so many designs to choose from, the possibilities are endless.

When I think of the 4th of July, I think of stars. The Paige Evans digital drive offers several star designs that are perfect to give your projects variety and a fun vibe. I uploaded the images to my Silhouette software and modified their size so to have small, medium and big stars. Make sure to select the Sketch Pen option before sending the paper to cut and secure the foil with tape to ensure it’s wrinkle-free. I went with silver foil for a festive, sparkly look – I love how it looks on dark blue cardstock! Once ready, I fussy cut the stars before layering them to form a cluster behind the photo.

The collection I used is one of my favorites from Pink Paislee: Sweet Freedom; even though it’s a couple of years old, I love the patterns and muted colors. I arranged the stars towards the right side of the layout and placed the photo on top after layering several tags and frames behind it. I used the Tag Punch Board and the Frame Punch Board for this – I don’t know what I would do without such handy tools! Everything was adhered down with foam dots for dimension.

Next, I embellished around the photo with die-cuts, stickers, and fussy cut elements. To create balance, I formed another cluster of embellishments to the left side of the layout. Black and gold paint splatters gave the final touch.

This layout is very simple, but I love how it turned out. Those sparkly stars are everything!

Thank you for stopping by today. I hope I have inspired you to give the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill a try and create beautiful, shiny projects with it.

Patriotic Cupcake Toppers

Hello We R fans, and happy Friday! It’s Aly here again, and I’m glad you stopped by the blog today. Independence Day is a holiday with special memories and meaning for me, so I’m excited to share some Patriotic Cupcake Toppers inspired by my love for this favorite time of year.

Patriotic Cupcake Toppers by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

Fireworks are a big part of the Fourth of July for me and my family, so I wanted to create the look of fireworks on my cupcake toppers. Marker Airbrush to the rescue!

Patriotic Cupcake Toppers by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

I knew I wanted to use the Marker Airbrush for the background of my cupcake toppers, so I picked out some patriotic colored markers from my stash, and created the feel of fireworks on some scraps of smooth Bazzill Marshmallow cardstock.

Marker Airbrush by We R Memory Keepers

Deciding how to add text to each topper took a bit more thought. I knew it would be easy to add Thickers, or patriotic die cut phrases, but I really wanted to keep the airbrush look consistent throughout the project. Then it hit me that I could use my Word Punch Board (shipping to retailers July 2018) to create a custom template for the Marker Airbrush!

Word Punch Board by We R Memory Keepers

I punched out the letters “USA”, taped the template over my background (along with a little extra scrap of paper to completely cover it), and then used the complementary color with the Marker Airbrush to add the letters for my toppers.

Once I finished adding the letters to the backgrounds, I punched them out with the Clear Cut Heart Punch. It was the perfect solution to portray my love for my country AND to quickly and easily punch out the text.

To finish off my cupcake toppers, I added a few clear adhesive backed rhinestones for some sparkle, and then taped them to some fancy red and blue large sandwich picks.

Don’t they look cool with these cupcakes with the red, white, and blue swirled frosting?

This would be a great technique to include on a patriotic greeting card, place card, or gift tag since you can easily customize the text using the Word Punch Board and the Marker Airbrush!

Thanks for stopping by the blog friends! I hope you enjoy a fun, safe, and memorable Independence Day holiday this year. Happy crafting!

Patriotic Party Favors

Hello everyone!  It’s Eva  on the blog today sharing a 4th Of July party favor made with some of my favorite tools, including the new Happy Jig!

Patriotic Party Favors by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepe

I think party favors are super cute, everybody is happier when they go home with a little something! These favors are easy and look great! You could use them for a party or maybe to give to your co workers or neighbors during the 4th of July!

To make this design I simply created a number 4 and added the “t” and “h” found on the “Thursday” word  (you can find it on their Instagram account @werhappyjig)

The silver wire was the perfect match to the “Land that I Love” line from Pebbles Inc.

Here are the Happy Jig coordinates in case you want to make one:

Start: R18

Big Pegs: N30

Medium Pegs:F28

Small Pegs: E22, G18, G20, G25, H22, L15, L21, Q23, R28, R32

I also cut some stars on patterned paper. I used a template and then used my Magnetic Mat  and Craft Knife to cut the 2 star shapes at the same time. The paper doesn’t move because the magnetic ruler and mat keeps everything in place, super handy!

Patriotic Party Favors by Eva Pizarro for We R Memory Keepers

I used my Stitch Happy and the Stitch Happy Bakers Twine Thread to sew all around my star. Just before I finished the edges I put some red and blue candies inside.

I decorated my stars with some die cuts, stickers and 3d elements from the same “Land that I Love” Pebbles collection. On top of everything I added my “4th” shape. I love that I can layer a wire shape and still see all the other embellishments!

To open the star simply tear the paper and enjoy the candy!

Patriotic Garland

Hey there, We R friends, Laura here today with a fun patriotic garland craft you can make with just a few simple We R tools. Use the mini alphabet punch board and the trim & score board to create a pretty garland banner you can use to decorate for the 4th of July or any patriotic holiday.

Patriotic Garland by Laura Silva for We R Memory Keepers

Start by creating the rosettes. I used papers from the DCWV Nautical Mile cardstock stack. There are a lot of red, white, and blue papers in this paper stack that are perfect for this project. For each rosette, I started with an 8” x 8” patterned paper. I used the trim & score board to create score lines every ½”.

Trim and Score Board by We R Memory Keepers

Then, I cut the scored paper in half to create two sheets of 4” x 8” scored patterned paper.

Trim and Score Board by We R Memory Keepers

To create the rosette, fold the paper accordion style using the score lines as your guide.

Trim and Score Board by We R Memory Keepers

Then, fold the paper in half and use hot glue to attach the two ends. This will create a half circle. Do the same for the other paper, and then glue the two halves together with hot glue.

Trim and Score Board by We R Memory Keepers

To keep the rosette from popping apart, use the Clear Cut circle punch to create a circle in a coordinating paper. Use hot glue to secure the circle to the middle of the rosette.

Cut out the letters ‘AMERICA’ from red, white, and blue textured cardstock using the mini alphabet punch board and the instruction book. Attach them to the front of the rosettes using adhesive foam dots to give the garland a little dimension.

Hot glue the rosettes to a strand of ribbon to hang your garland.

Patriotic Garland by Laura Silva for We R Memory Keepers

I love the mix of colors and patterns on this garland. I used varying shades of blue and red for each rosette. With the red, white, and blue letters, the banner turned out very patriotic.

This will make a festive and fun decoration for my 4th of July decorating. It would also be perfect for Memorial Day, Labor Day, or any other patriotic festivity you are celebrating.

Patriotic Party Favors

Hello We R Fans! Kimberly here with a fun and quick treat bag for your Fourth of July celebrations! Each year on the Fourth, everyone spends the day, following the parade, at my parent’s house on the lake. After the day in the sun, we head back into town early, to get good seats for the fireworks. The littles, and let’s face it, the big people too, get a bit restless waiting for dusk. So, I thought it would be fun to make little treat bags to keep everyone entertained and happy. The We R Memory Keepers Scallop Goodie Bag Guide helped me put these festive packages together easily!

With a few seasonal treats and silly accessories, these bags will be a hit!

I started by using the Scallop Goodie Bag Guide to cut a few pieces of food-safe glassine papers. The Guide allows you to tear the paper by simply pulling. It also has a straight-edge for getting crisp folds.

Inside each bag are Pop Rocks candy, licorice, glow bracelets, glow wants, and a pair of ridiculous sunglasses. Lots of fun! I see selfies happening already!

On each bag, I attached a medallion I created with ribbon and a pre-made star burst from the Oh Goodie line.

To get clean cut edges on my ribbon, I used the Ribbon Cutter tool. This tool not only cuts the ribbon, but seals it too. To get the notched ends in the ribbon, I folded it in half before placing it in the tool. The sharper the angle it is placed in the tool, the deeper the notch.

These cute bags came together quickly. Who needs to make these for their Fourth of July celebration?

Patriotic Banner with the Mini Alphabet Punch Board

Hey there We R Memory Keeper friends and fans, Becki here, to share a really fun, really easy patriotic banner with the mini alphabet punch board. True confession time, this is the first time I’ve played with the Mini Alphabet Punch Board. I can honestly say that I had so much fun playing with it and that it wasn’t nearly as confusing as I thought it would be. I dug into my stash of patterned papers and embellishments to find some red, white, and blue supplies. I found the “America the Beautiful” collection from Pebbles. Of course, this is the perfect collection for this project.

The “USA” letters are the first thing I cut out with the dark wood grain patterned paper. It only takes a few minutes to punch/cut each letter. Then, I cut the banner shapes with the Banner Punch Board (one of my favorite tools). Each banner piece is 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches. The banner punch board makes cutting out pieces for a banner a breeze!

After cutting all the pieces out, I was ready to assemble the banner. I used pop dots to adhere the letters and some of the stickers to the banner pieces. Each banner piece is a little bit different. The banner is put together with a thin piece of rope. The knot at either end of the banner not only keeps the banner pieces from falling off but it adds a fun textural element to the finished banner.

Patriotic Pinwheel Cake Topper

Hello We R friends, and Happy Monday! It’s Aly here, and this week on the blog we’re featuring patriotic projects from our design team to inspire your 4th of July crafting. If you’ve got a barbeque, party or other patriotic event, then be sure to check back each day this week for some fabulous ideas!

Today I’m sharing a festive cake topper idea for an Independence Day party. To make this cake topper, I pulled out an oldie but goodie, the Pinwheel Punch Board.

Patriotic Pinwheel Cake Topper by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers
For extra dimension, I made the pinwheels out of Bazzill Basics Plastic Embossing Sheets and embossed them with some Next Level Embossing Folders, and the Evolution Advanced.

Patriotic Pinwheel Cake Topper by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

I used the Pinwheel Attachments so that the pinwheels can actually spin, adding a fun interactive element to the cake topper.

Patriotic Pinwheel Cake Topper by Aly Dosdall for We R Memory Keepers

To make this Patriotic Pinwheel Cake Topper, I started by gathering my supplies.

I trimmed two red and two blue 3×3 squares, two red and two blue 4×4 squares, and one red and one blue 5×5 square. I punched each corner as explained in the instructions, and then cut all the red squares using the Pinwheel A track.

Then I punched the corners of each blue square, and cut them using the Pinwheel B track.

Then I embossed each pinwheel using some Next Level Embossing Folders and my Evolution Advanced.

I layered the red squares on top of the blue squares, interlocking the pinwheel arms, and then followed the instructions to assemble the attachment pieces. Once assembled, I added an Enamel Dot to the attachment cap for a finished look and placed a paper straw into the attachment base.

I trimmed off the ends of the paper straws at different lengths for a layered look, and inserted them into the center of the cake.
