School Themed Scrapbook Layout with the Clear Cut Punches

When I saw the small 1 inch Clear Cut Punches, I was very happy. I have the larger Circle Clear Cut Punch and I LOVE it. Because often you want to punch out something in the middle of the layout or mini album, like maybe a pattern from a paper. Then these punches are perfect for it!

My daughter is in first grade and she started school last year. It was a very exciting day for her. In Germany the children get a school bag. I made it myself with my daughter. And so that these memories remain forever, we also took some pictures of our daughter with her school bag.

I wanted to assemble the photo from many small parts. First I printed the photo 3 times. Then I punched a lot of small squares out of the photo with the Square Mini Clear Cut Punch.

For the first photo I punched out the parts in a row. For the next photo at different places, because the parts are to be put together afterwards.

The photo is placed on the lower part of the punch and the magnetic disc on top. So the photo does not slip. Then it is punched out with the upper part by pressing on it. So very easy!

I haven’t punched out the third photo yet. Because I only wanted to see where I still needed parts of the design when I was assembling it. It was a lot of fun. It was like a puzzle. Step by step I put the pieces together with 3D glue dots.

Because of the different height of the parts, the photo has got more dimension. I really like the effect. I tried it for the first time and didn’t know how it would turn out. I will definitely do it again. I think with the Circle Punch it would look great too.

When the photo was finished, I punched small squares into the layout at different places. Additionally, from a pink cardstock. Then I decorated the squares with sequins, stickers, tassels etc. Everything that fits a school child. Here there are endless possibilities.

End of the School Year Cinch Book

End of the School Year Cinch Book

I love to take photos of my kids on their first day of school, and then again on the last day of school.  Placing them together on the same scrapbook page really highlights how they’ve changed over the school year.  This year I decided to place the first and last day photos in a 6×6 Cinch book.  Here’s how it turned out:

Although it’s not a school themed collection, the lined papers, graph papers, and numbers in the For The Record collection lend themselves perfectly to the theme of this album.  I made a two page spread for each of my kids that includes the first and last day photos, plus some journaling about the school year.  Take a look below:

I printed my 3×4 inch photos, added some patterned paper, chipboard stickers, embossed stickers, and washi tape to my pages before punching them in the Cinch machine.  In order to fit all of this on each page I created some fold-out journaling flaps.

I cut apart the journaling cards on the Notecards paper and used them as my journaling flaps.  They’re just the right size!

Washi tape was the perfect way to attach these–it’s flexible and plenty tacky to hold the flap in place.  Simply place one length of washi tape along one side of the card so that half overlaps onto the background paper…

…then place another length of washi tape along the other side so that half overlaps onto the background paper.

I keep this Cinch book in a basket out where my kids can look at it and enjoy the fun memories they’ve had this school year.  It’s the perfect way to see the growth they’ve experienced.
