Pinwheel Christmas Ornament

We put up our Christmas tree this weekend so decorating for the holidays is on my mind. Plus, I’ve been dying for an excuse to play with my new Pinwheel Punch Board, so guess what I made over the weekend? That’s right–a Pinwheel Christmas Ornament!

This was super easy to make, and I could see a whole tree covered with these in beautiful holiday colors. I loved using the Pinwheel Punch Board to make this ornament–I simply trimmed my paper to the desired size according to the instruction sheet. Then I lifted the cutting arm and punched all four corners of my paper with the punch feature on the board.

Next, I aligned my punched paper corner with the coordinating size on the board, placed the cutting arm down, and inserted the blade into the guide and cut all four corners.

I cut a 6″ pinwheel and a 4″ pinwheel and layered them together. Then I die cut a snowflake shape from an Adhesive Metal Sheet using the single die from the Snowflake Punches Dies and added that under the brad that holds the pinwheels together. I added some black Sew Easy Glitter Floss for hanging and…voila! I love it!

Peace On Earth Card

One thing I love about the gorgeous Silver and Gold collection is that not only does it include traditional greens and reds for the holidays, but it also includes some less expected but just as beautiful colors. Of course it has silver and gold, but I love the unexpected chalkboard black, kraft, and robin’s egg blue colors as well. Here’s a holiday card I made focusing on some of the more non-traditional colors in the collection.

For this card I stuck with the blue, white, gold, and kraft colors. I love the soft feel of them when combined with the gold–perfect for the holidays. And the crisp white reminds me of newly fallen snow.

I used the Wreath Frame Die to house my die cut sentiment, drawing attention to it. Laurel wreaths are a hot trend to watch for this holiday season–love them! I embellished the wreath with some gold sequins for a little sparkle, and included a pop of red at the top with some twine and a gem. My sentiment combines three different fonts–a script font and two tall and skinny fonts. Combining different fonts is a great way to add visual interest to any project.

So what do you think of the Silver and Gold collection so far? Do you like traditional or non-traditional holiday colors? Share your favorite holiday color schemes in the comments section below.

Metallic Antlers Card

It’s always interesting to me to see how trends in fashion, home decor, and design work their way into the paper crafts industry. Some of those trends I really enjoy, while others I’m glad to see meet their end. Two of those trends that I currently love are metallic elements and antlers shapes. And aren’t I lucky that these two trends lend themselves perfectly to the holiday season? Check out how I was able to combine these two trends on a card I created using the lovely (and oh so trendy) Silver and Gold collection.

To combine these two trends I used the Antlers Shape Die and some Adhesive MetalSheets to cut out a silver antlers shape for my card. I cut out an oval frame to house the antlers shape and placed it and the antlers on foam squares for added dimension. The oval frame allows the metallic antlers to take center stage on the card.

I kept additional elements on my card to a minimum, adding only a small and simple sentiment at the bottom, and a few scattered gold sequins to further emphasize the metallic trend on the project.
