Travel Journal with the Freestyle Pens

The Foil Quill Freestyle Pens are my new favorite of all tools! I immediately fell in love with them. Without much preparation or equipment you can start right away. And it’s so easy. I will certainly use the pens often.

I used the All-In-One Kit for my project. The pens have different sizes (Fine Tip, Standard Tip and Bold Tip). So I tried them first. I could see exactly how each pen writes and what the result looks like.

For my Travel Journal I wanted to design the background with leaves. For this I cut out sheets of paper in different shapes (paper is from the Horizon collection of Pink Paislee).

Travel Journal with the Freestyle Pens by Steffi Ried for We R Memory Keepers

Before I started with the pen, I used wash tape on the cardstock (underside) and taped it on the mat so it doesn’t slip. Now stick the foil over the cardstock. I was careful so that the Washi Tape is not stuck on the Cardstock. This makes it easier to remove.

Now plug in the Freestyle Pen and heat it up. Meanwhile I stamped my cut out leaves on the foil. So I already have the shapes to trace them with the pen. Here I used the pen with the standard tip.

After I foiled the first two leaves, I added leaves to my cardstock in other places. Until the background was filled with golden leaves.

At the end a few cut out leaves were glued on and the page was finished. Since this side of the spread is very colorful, I kept the other side with the photo rather simple.

I hope you like my project and I have already planned more pages with the Foil Quill Freestyle Pen in my album. Thanks a lot for stopping by!

Capture Summer Memories on a Traveler’s Notebook Spread

Hey there We R friends, Laura here today. This summer has flown by for us and I can hardly believe it is almost time for school to start again. Our summer was a busy one. We moved from our first home we lived in for over 13 years to a new house. I don’t have any time for scrapbooking right now, so I thought a fun traveler’s journal spread showing some of our favorite summer memories would do the trick!

Summer Travelers Notebook Spread by Laura Silva for We R Memory Keepers

I started by gathering all my favorite Journal Studio supplies which included the travel workspace loaded up with some die cuts, pens, washi tape, and a blank notebook. I also got out the Journal Studio stickers and embellishment organizer.

I trimmed down a sentiment from the Amy Tangerine Stay Sweet papers using my scissors and the mini trimmer. I love using the mini trimmer for journals and traveler’s notebooks since all my elements need to stay small on the page.

I created a list of some of the fun things I could remember off the top of my head on a sticker from the pack. Then, I went through my photos on my phone and created a photo collage in Canva that I printed out on cardstock and then trimmed to fit.

I used more of the Amy Tangerine paper to create a mat for my photo collage. I added the dates onto a pineapple die cut.

I wrote directly onto the journal notebook about how busy our summer has been with moving, but how we are still trying to squeeze some fun out of our summer.

Watermelon and pineapple accents completed my embellishments for the layout.

I love how this layout turned out. It is a quick snapshot of our summer that helps me to remember what we did as a family for the summer.

I can’t wait to do more spreads for winter, spring, and fall for this year to add to my notebook. It will be a great jumpstart to remembering everything when I have a little more time to do some full scrapbook layouts.

Best Of Summer Traveler’s Note Book

Hello everybody! Soraya here today to talk about summertime and all the good memories we like to document during our vacations. Here is a tutorial for you to create your own traveler notebook using the Book Binding Guide, the Word Punch Board and other yummy We R Memory Keepers tools!

Best of Summer Traveler's Notebook by Soraya Maes for We R Memory Keepers

First of all, let’s make the structure. Cut the cover of the notebook in a patterned paper measuring 19,7 x 25 cm. Score the middle of the paper with a spine of 1cm.

BestOfSummer by Soraya Maes-2We R Memory Keepers Trim and Score Board

To make the inserts, take 8 normal paper sheets measuring 24×19,7cm and fold them in the middle. Separate them in 2 inserts of 4 sheets. Use the Trim & Score Board for an easy control.

Let’s bind the inserts in the TN ! Use the Book Binding tool to pierce the inserts in the middle of their spine. Then repeat the process for the cover by piercing 2 ranges of holes all along the score you previously folded.

With a pink thread and an needle, sew the inserts on the cover and tie a knot to secure the points. You have more details about the sewing style in the instruction book, but don’t worry these are very simple to make !

This TN needs a tassel ! So grab your Tassel Loom and create a beautiful pink pompom. Then use the Crop-A-Dile to place an eyelet on the top of the spine. This is by where we’ll attach the tassel.

With the Word Punch Board (I love this tool so much!) create the word « summer » on a blue paper. Place an eyelet and a white paper on the back for the constrast. Add some pretty pearls on the tassel before attaching everything through the notebook spine.

And voilà ! Your handmade TN is finally done ! Look how it is colorful ! Just add some embellishments on the cover and prepare the inner pages for the fun !

Soraya.

DIY Traveler’s Notebook Leather Cover with the Foil Quill

Hello We R fans! It’s Aly here to share a fun and easy DIY Traveler’s Notebook Cover with the amazing new Foil Quill pen and my Silhouette Cameo cutting machine. This summer our family is taking a long trip back east to visit some places where some of our ancestors lived to learn more about them. I’m so excited about this trip and I know it’s going to be so memorable, so I created this traveler’s notebook to record photos, stories and experiences along the way.

I love that the cover closure includes a pen so I’ll always be ready to write down thoughts or details during our trip. Take a look inside of the cover. The notebook insert is one of the Amy Tangerine Journal Studio inserts, which helped make this project come together quickly and easily.

The beautiful foil details on the leather cover make this traverler’s notebook really special. It’s the perfect place to record our special family vacation!

This leather cover is easy to make. Let me show you how I did it with my Silhouette Cameo!

I started with an 8 1/2 x 11 inch piece of Turquoise real leather I bought at my local Joann Store. Since I didn’t have an SVG file to cut the closure in my leather, I created a template with an 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheet of cardstock and traced it onto the leather. Then I cut out the parts of the closure with my craft knife. If you’re an experienced Cameo user, you could create your own cutting file. The opening for the closure is 1 inch squared, and the top of the slits on the opposite side are 1 inch apart so they fit perfectly inside to 1 inch square.

IMG_8495

Next I added foil accents to my leather cover with the Foil Quill. The back side of real leather will leave fibers and debris on your cutting mat, so I recommend covering the back of your leather piece with a sheet of double sided adhesive. (You can also cover it with masking tape and use a spray adhesive on your mat.) Once I covered the back of the leather, I pealed off the backing and carefully placed it on my mat.

IMG_8499

I used my large bone folder as a brayer to smooth out any bubbles or lumps in the leather to ensure as smooth a foil transfer as possible.

We R Memory Keepers Large Bone Folder

The original Cameo is not made to handle thick materials like the newer models are, so you need to place your leather on the cutting mat so that the edges don’t go under the white rollers at each end of the roller bar. I placed my leather vertically in the center of my mat and that worked great.

IMG_8506IMG_8508

For this project I used the gorgeous rose gold foil. It comes in a 12×96 inch roll and 4×6 sheets. I like to use foil that contrasts nicely with the material I’m using so the foil stands out. I used artwork from the Paige Evans and Heidi Swapp Design Drives.

**It’s important to mention that practicing on scrap paper ahead of time to insure proper placement of foil on your material and your material on your mat will save you some frustration.**

Here are the settings I used on my Sihouette Cameo for foiling with the Rose Gold foil on real leather:

Foil Quill Pen Size: Standard
Action: Sketch
Material: Leatherette (modified)
Speed: 1
Force: 25

I let my Foil Quill pen heat up for 10 mintues to ensure it was plenty hot. Then I loaded up my mat, hit “send” and watched the magic happen! It turned out amazing!

IMG_8517

Clean up was easy after foiling. All I had to do is pull up my leather with the double sided adhesive sheet, and then pull that off the leather and toss it in the trash. No mess on my mat!

IMG_8518

Next I created the binding for my notebook insert. I used the Book Binding Guide to punch holes in the cover spine. Remove the top of the guide by unscrewing the knobs. Line up the top edge of your leather cover against the top of the guide, placing the center of the spine in the groove on the bottom of the guide. Punch the top two circled holes along the center column with the punch tool.

We R Memory Keepers Book Binding Guide

Then punch the last two circled holes at the bottom of the spine.

We R Memory Keepers Book Binding Guide

Thread some elastic cording from the inside of the cover to the outside through the top hole, then thread the elastic back into the inside of the cover through the second hole at the top. Thread the cording through the bottom hole and then back into the inside of the cover through the hole just above the bottom hole. Tie both ends in a knot at the bottom of your cover and trim the excess. Here’s what your finished binding will look like. You’ll slip your notebook insert under the longer of the two elastics inside the cover so that it rests in the middle page of your notebook.

To close the cover, simply pull the left flap over the notebook first, then the right one overlaps the left. Then pull the loop through the opening on the front, and insert your favorite pen!

If you’d like more room for notebook inserts, just use a longer piece of leather for the cover and add more elastic binding.

Throwback Thursday: DIY Traveler’s Notebook

If you have some summer or travel memories that need to be documented and to find a home, here’s a great way to do that! Make your own traveler’s notebook with some office paper, patterned paper, and the Stitch Happy Sewing Machine.

Hello friends, Aly here. Recently, I shared a tutorial for making this Hawaii themed Traveler’s Notebook plus one of the inside pages on the Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine blog. You can catch the original post, including a process video and demo of the Stitch Happy HERE.

The thick Stitch Happy Thread (similar width to floss) really holds the six sheets of copy paper plus the cardstock cover together securely.

After binding my notebook, I used a few simple elements from the Crate Paper Oasis Collection to decorate the cover. Now I can add photos, memories, and embellishments to the inside pages as I have time. Here’s a look at a brand new page I added:

I used my used my Typecast Typewriter to add some journaling directly to one of the tags from the Oasis Ephemera Pack. I love journaling with my Typecast-so easy!

Here are some details shots from the inside page:

I love using Traveler’s Notebooks to document memories. They’re quick, easy, and can be made in no time with the Stitch Happy sewing machine. They’re my favorite DIY project to date!

Traveler’s Notebook Spread with the Journal Guide

Hello, We R friends! Enza back with you to share a spread in my new traveler’s notebook using the Journal Guide tool.

Travelers Notebook with the Journal Guide by Enza Gudor for We R Memory Keepers

If you love creating charts, lists, banners, or even little pockets to hold tags, memorabilia, and embellishments, this tool is for you. My spread today features the new Crate Paper Journal Studio Collection, which I absolutely love!

I started by creating sort of a calendar for the upcoming month. I used the rotating guide to draw two concentric circles and add sections for the days of the month. This tool is very easy to use, and gives you perfect results all the time. Since I like different textures and some dimension on my pages, I decided to use a craft die from my stash to cut the circle; then I die cut a smaller circle from patterned paper to place in the middle, just to embellish it a bit.

Next, I created two banners by simply tracing them with the ruler and the right angle guides before fussy cutting them with the Crafter’s Small Precision Scissors.

We R Memory Keepers Journal GuideWe R Memory Keepers Journal Guide

I usually like to have a little pocket or sleeve on the back of the front cover of my notebook, just to hold bits and pieces of the collection I plan to use, or store keepsakes. It is super easy to create your own with the Journal Guide. I simply cut patterned paper to the desired size, folded it around the long end of the tool, and taped the sides; for the bottom, I just folded the flap up and glued it to the back. I created three pockets, that I embellished with washi tape and die cuts from the Crate Paper Journal Studio Collection.

Mixed Media Traveler’s Notebook

Hey there We R Memory Keepers friends and fans, Becki here to share a mini album that I created using many of my favorite We R Memory Keepers tools. Recently, I wrote a blog post about my crafty travelers notebook. You can find more details about how I created the base of the travelers notebook HERE.
Stitch Happy Art Journal by Becki Adams for We R Memory Keepers

Today, I thought it would be fun to show you a few of the pages that I created to go inside the notebook.

Stitch Happy Art Journal by Becki Adams for We R Memory Keepers

When I created the notebook I made it with enough pages so that I had one page for each city I was visiting. When I visited Chicago, I took SO many photos that I wasn’t able to fit all of the photos onto the two page spread. I used patterned paper that I cut with the dial trimmer as an extra page in the notebook. I love the scalloped edge that I was able to add to the patterned paper with the dial trimmer. To add the page into my notebook, I taped it in place with washi tape.

On the white pages in the notebook, I did a little bit of mixed media with Heidi Swapp color shine and Vicki Boutin stamps. The stamped flowers made the perfect embellishments.

As usual, I used my Typecast Typewriter to type the journaling for this spread. I love the look typed journaling and it’s so easy to type journaling with the Typecast Typewriter.

By adding that one little patterned paper insert, I was able to add 3 extra photos and more journaling about my crafty adventures to Chicago. My We R Memory Keeper tools made creating (and altering) my travelers notebook so easy. Thank you for stopping by the We R Memory Keepers blog. I’ll see you again soon.
